Job summary The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have an exciting opportunity for Neonatal/General Paediatric Consultants to come and join our dynamic and enthusiastic team at GWH This role will predominantly be focused on Neonatology but also includes some General Paediatric commitments, including General Paediatric/Neonatal clinics and Paediatric Assessment Unit work, with the opportunity to develop other speciality interest areas. There are 2 x full time 10PA Substantive positions but candidates wishing to be considered to be less than full time are encouraged to apply. The 2 full time substantive positions are new roles within the Neonatal team, as part of a wider expansion of the consultant workforce to allow dedicated separateNeonatal service provision. As such the post holder should be trained in all aspects of general paediatrics and neonatology. A special interest (SPIN) in Neonatology is desirable, but we would also welcome applicants from candidates who can demonstrate significant experience and interest in Neonatology. Any other special interests will be discussed as to how they may fit into the department and will be supported as much as possible. The service commitment will be on a consultant of the week model, with responsibilities for the neonatal unit, and also a separate service week as postnatal ward/transitional care consultant. There will also be a regular commitment to GP advice & guidance and referral triage. Participation in out of hours consultant cover for the neonatal unit is on a rota (1:8 weekdays, 1:8 weekends). On-call responsibilities will involve multidisciplinary team working across the perinatal service. Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care (with secretarial support). There is also a 1:16 commitment to Paediatric Assessment Unit Consultant cover. There will also be a commitment to neonatal and general paediatric (and subspecialty) outpatient clinics. Undertaking ward rounds around the neonatal unit and transitional care unit daily, aiming, where possible, for these ward rounds to be done in partnership with the baby(ie)s parents. All consultants are willing to support new members of the team and a mentor within the department will be allocated. Multidisciplinary team working is key component of the working within the Trust and involves regular MDT discussions with colleagues including our nursing, midwifery, obstetric, ANNP and AHP teams. Development of sub specialty interests that fit in with Division needs and the strategic direction of the Trust.
