About the role In your role as Private Market Risk Manager you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset. This role will provide a great opportunity to support the Head of Private Market Risk in the ongoing implementation and expansion of all facets of the private market investment risk oversight framework. The Private Market Risk function is a sub-team of the wider Financial Risk function and works alongside the Public Markets Risk team on Investment Risk Oversight. The objective is to provide identification, oversight, control and reporting on private market investment risk at individual mandate level and in aggregate, across the DB and DC parts of the fund. To achieve this, the role holder is required to build and maintain the associated processes for analysis, challenge, oversight and reporting and to ensure that these are fit for purpose and executed in an accurate and timely manner. What you will be doing As a trusted part of the Financial Risk you will be responsible for: Assist in reviewing and challenging transactions from a risk perspective for the Private Markets Investment Committee. Assist in the preparation of independent risk reviews and opinions on direct, fund and co-investment transactions across all private market asset classes (private equity, private credit, infrastructure and property) that incorporate an assessment of a comprehensive set of risks (e.g. Financial, Credit, Operational, Legal / Regulatory, Reputational, Climate Change etc.) as well as an assessment of the risk/return profile within the portfolio and mandate context. Assist in monitoring the ongoing risk profile evolution of an investment after acquisition and assist in reviewing and challenging asset management activities (incl. credit rating reviews) from a risk perspective for the Portfolio Review Committee Assist in reviewing and challenging valuations of private market assets for the Fair Value Committee Prepare meaningful and value-add management reporting of the risk profile and of key risk insights in relation the private market portfolio Conduct scenario analysis and stress tests to proactively identify key emerging risks that could impact private market investments and propose potential mitigating measures at both individual asset level as well as at portfolio or mandate level Assist with the modelling and onboarding of private market investments in risk systems MSCI BarraOne/RiskManager and Ortec GLASS Maintain a keen understanding and awareness of key private market industry trends and risks Develop private asset class research and expertise to inform risk assessment and measurement and ensure best industry practice Work with the other sub-teams across the Financial Risk function to foster a healthy risk culture throughout USSIM and with the executive teams to embed the ownership and management of risk in the first line About you We know that sometimes people can be put off applying for a job if they don't tick every box, if you're excited about working for us and have most of the skills or experience we're looking for, then please apply, regardless of whether you meet all the requirements outlined in this profile. To be successful in the role you will have: Relevant professional experience in a private assets investment, risk management/oversight, credit analyst or investment banking analyst role Solid understanding and keen interest in the private markets industry, business models and asset classes Ability to communicate effectively in both written papers and oral presentations Capable of both bottom-up fundamental investment analytics and top-down strategic thinking Comfort working with and developing quantitative approaches to measure private market risks from a bottom-up and top-down perspective Intellectual curiosity – willingness and ability to challenge, investigate and develop new ideas and investment strategies Excellent analytical skills – ability to pick up new and challenging concepts and able to provide clear solutions Self-starter who relishes taking the initiative and pursues excellence and high standards Why join us?
