Salary: PS8 £35,730 - £38,585 FTE to hours worked plus travel allowance. Initial working hours are expected to be around 120 hours per academic year. Extra hours may be required under certain circumstances.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Advice to the Local Governing Committee
* Act as first point of contact for governors with queries on procedural matters
* Have access to appropriate legal advice, support and guidance, and where necessary seek advice and guidance from third parties on behalf of the governing body
* Ensure that statutory policies are in place, and are revised as necessary, with the assistance of staff
* Advise on the annual calendar of governing committee meetings and tasks
* Send new governors induction materials and ensure they have access to appropriate documents, including the agreed code of practice
* Contribute to the induction of governors taking on new roles, in particular Chair or Chair of a committee
* Act as point of contact for gathering Safer Recruitment documentation
Effective administration of meetings
* With the Chair and Headteacher, prepare a focussed agenda for governing all meetings
* Liaise with those preparing papers to make sure they are available on time and distribute the agenda and papers as required by legislation or other regulations
* Ensure meetings are quorate
* Record the attendance of governors at meetings, taking appropriate action in relation to absences
* Draft minutes including absences, apologies, actions and further meeting dates, send to Chair of Governors and Headteacher for review before circulating to all governors
Membership
* Maintain a register of governor pecuniary interests and ensure the record of governors’ business interests is reviewed annually in line with the Trust’s schedule, lodged within the school and communicated to the Trust’s PA annually and whenever any governor leaves or is appointed
* Send the attendance record annually retrospectively to the Trust’s PA
* Support the governing committee to schedule governor monitoring visits to the school and ensure that visit reports are received and considered
Manage information
* Update as required the governance tab on Get Information About Schools (GIAS)
* Maintain a record of signed minutes of meetings in school and ensure copies are sent to relevant bodies on request and are published as agreed at meetings
* Maintain records of governing committee correspondence
* Undertake appropriate and regular training and development to maintain knowledge and improve practice
* Participate in regular performance management
Additional services
The Clerk may be asked to undertake the following additional duties:
* Clerk any statutory appeal committees/panels that governors are required to convene provided training to do so is up to date
* Assist with elections of any relevant governors
* Participate in, and contribute to, the training of governors in areas appropriate to the clerking role
* Maintain a file of relevant Department for Education (DfE), local authority and Trust guidance documents
* Maintain archive materials
* Prepare briefing papers for the governing committee as necessary
* Perform such other tasks as may be determined by the governing committee from time to time
Key Skills Required:
* An awareness, understanding and commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children (E)
* Educated to GCSE Standard at Grade A – C for a minimum of 5 GCSEs including Mathematics and English, or equivalent qualifications (E)
* Experience working in a governance role (D)
* Recognised clerking qualification (e.g. NGA Level 3 Certificate in the clerking of School and Academy Governing Boards) (D)
* Knowledge of relevant policies/codes of practice and awareness of legislation i.e. safeguarding and equal opportunities, or a willingness to undertake training (E)
* Excellent and effective administrative skills (E)
* Good organisational skills, particularly concerning data handling and the maintenance of records (E)
* Ability to work independently using own initiative and manage time effectively (E)
* Ability to travel to work-related meetings and events at various locations as required (E)
