Job Title: Painter and Decorator
Rate of Pay: £14.46 per hour
Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time
Hours: 39 hours per week

The role involves carrying out internal and external painting and decorating tasks as directed by management, ensuring that walls are properly prepared for decoration and performing minor repairs to surfaces and structures before painting. The employee will be responsible for using the necessary tools and equipment in accordance with safety guidelines to complete tasks efficiently. Erecting access equipment, including temporary screening and plant, is required to protect both the environment and people, with adherence to Health & Safety regulations.
The role includes monitoring and managing decorating material stock and requesting replacements as needed. The employee will also be expected to safely move heavy items, such as fridges and filing cabinets, to prepare areas for decoration, and work independently from instructions, drawings, and specifications. Proficiency in using hand and power tools and maintaining a high standard of workmanship is essential.
In terms of client and customer interaction, the employee will respond promptly to verbal, written, and reactive tasks, ensuring that all painting and decorating work is carried out to a high standard. They will provide support and input on projects as required and report any complaints or discrepancies to the line manager. Operational duties include ensuring work is completed within the approved budget and using painting and decorating equipment efficiently to minimize wastage. The employee will attend site inductions, understand and follow method statements/risk assessments, and participate in relevant training courses in line with Mitie's QHSE policy. Adherence to safety protocols is vital, including wearing appropriate PPE, completing time sheets on time, and following local procedures.
The ideal candidate should:
1. Hold a recognized qualification or have at least three years of verifiable experience in painting and decorating.
2. A full driving license is preferred, but not essential.
3. Have strong organizational skills, the ability to meet deadlines, and the capability to work both independently and as part of a team.
4. Possess knowledge of relevant legislation, compliance issues, and Health and Safety practices.
5. Exhibit a positive attitude, good customer service skills, and the ability to motivate oneself and others.
The employee must also comply with health and safety responsibilities, following company policies, reporting deficiencies, using equipment and PPE properly, and addressing any QHSE issues to the line manager or via the divisional reporting system.
