Leadership and Strategy
* Support the Head in setting the strategic direction for academic excellence and innovation.
* Inspire and guide the teaching faculty to uphold high standards in teaching, learning, and assessment.
* Develop, monitor, and evaluate academic policies, ensuring alignment with best practice and the School’s mission.
* Coordinate academic initiatives to drive continuous improvement in curriculum and teaching.
* Consider educational trends and developments, identifying opportunities for change and growth.
* Fulfil the duties required of members of SLT, including:
* Being on call at least one day per week for emergencies and covering weekends according to SLT rota.
* Organising exeat trips according to rota (usually one per year).
* Attendance at school events such as Open Days, Social Events, Parents meetings, Results Days etc.
* Play a key role in ensuring that the school is successful at school inspections.
Curriculum
* Implement and promote the School’s educational philosophy, fostering a culture of best practice.
* Working with the Head, develop and adapt the curriculum to meet the School’s needs and respond to changing opportunities and regulations.
* Oversee and update, in collaboration with the Marketing team, all KHS documents relating to the curriculum, including the Curriculum Calendar, GCSE Prospectus and A-level Prospectus.
* Keep the Governors, Headmaster, and all staff, abreast of developments in education and provide timely advice on teaching staff requirements.
* Develop and maintain advantageous links with other educational organisations.
Timetable
* Work with the Timetabler to ensure an effective and balanced timetable is prepared, suitably deploying staff according to their skills, knowledge, and availability.
* Manage the allocation of teaching staff in consultation with the Headmaster and according to budget.
* Manage the timetabling and administration of prep, ensuring the publication of an annual prep diary for pupils.
Examinations
* Manage the work of the Exams Advisor and Exams Officer in all matters relating to public, internal and mock examinations.
* Coordinate the collation and dissemination of public exam results to pupils, staff, and any outside bodies as required (including the DfE).
Staff Management
* Working with the Deputy Head, play a lead role on Professional Learning and Development (PLD) for teaching staff, oversee new staff induction (including PGCE and ECT arrangements), the peer observation programme, teaching staff appraisal (including lesson observations and book scrutiny and other performance measures) and CPD.
* Lead and manage the Heads of Department in the constant pursuit of raising academic standards, ensuring that the tracking of pupil progress, provision for very able pupils and those with SEN is appropriately integrated, and literacy and numeracy are promoted across the curriculum.
* Organise and chair half-termly Heads of Department meetings.
* With support of School Administrators, manage cover arrangements for absent staff.
* Assist the Headmaster with interviewing applicants for teaching posts and to advise on the appointment of staff.
Administration
* Line Management of those with academic administration responsibilities according to the organisational chart above.
* Manage the Academic Administration Officer to ensure management of school MIS (iSAMS), maintaining all school data accurately and in a timely manner.
* Analyse examination results for internal and external publication in consultation with the Headmaster.
* Hold annual meetings with each Head of Department to analyse and scrutinise public examination results in conjunction with the Headmaster.
* Oversee the production and dissemination of academic reports ensuring they are written in a timely, informative and professional manner.
* Manage the organisation of Parents’ evenings.
* Oversee parental briefings on GCSE and A-level subject choices, in conjunction with the relevant Section Head.
Teaching
* Plan and prepare courses and lessons in your assigned teaching subjects. (NB This post has a timetable reduction of 20 periods per fortnight where a full-time teaching post covers 54 per fortnight).
* Teach, according to their educational need, the pupils assigned to you; setting and marking work (including examinations) to be carried out by the pupils in school or elsewhere.
* Assess and report on the development, progress and attainment of pupils, liaising with parents.
* Promote the general progress and well-being of individual pupils and of any class or group of pupils assigned to you, providing guidance and advice to pupils on educational and social matters.
* Accompany pupils on trips away from the School.
Child protection, discipline, health and safety
* Continuously promote and safeguard the welfare of pupils.
* Maintain good order and discipline among the pupils and safeguard their health and safety both when they are on the School and/or School premises and when they are engaged in authorised school activities elsewhere.
Other
* Undertake all other reasonable duties as requested by the School.
* Holidays will always be taken during normal School holidays, however the post holder is expected to work some days of the holidays as required in support of this management position and in further training without additional payment.
