Underwater technology company, Blueprint Subsea, have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Author to join our team based in Haverthwaite, near the southern end of Lake Windermere, Cumbria. As a Technical Author at Blueprint Subsea, your role is about ‘telling a story’, ensuring our customers can easily understand and use our acoustic sonar and navigation products. You'll be responsible for creating and maintaining a range of materials, such as user manuals, training videos, technical articles, and product data sheets. If you’re a creative person with graphic design or video production skills, that's a big plus Key responsibilities : The key responsibilities of your job will be to: Write, edit, and maintain various documents, including user manuals, training materials, training and product videos, technical articles, presentations, and product data sheets. Understand the needs and expectations of our customers to make sure our documentation is straightforward, clear, and suitable for a variety of audiences. Work closely with our team engineering team and product experts, to gather information and ensure the accuracy of your documentation. Review and improve existing documentation and materials for clarity, consistency, and accuracy. Keep track of different document versions and maintain a well-organized repository. Make sure all documentation follows established formatting and style guidelines. Actively seek feedback from end-users and internal teams to continually enhance the quality of your documentation. Additionally, If you've got graphic design skills, use them to create diagrams, images, and other visuals that make technical concepts easy to understand. If you can, produce and edit instructional videos to complement your written documentation. Essential qualifications and skills : Hold a relevant degree, or have equivalent experience, in a field that involves technical communications, media content creation, English language, or engineering. Possess strong communication, time-management, and teamwork skills. Have a keen eye for detail, methodical mindset, and the ability to work independently. Be proficient in the use of the Microsoft 365 Office suite (i.e. Word and PowerPoint). Desirable skills : Have understanding or familiarity with scientific and engineering concepts, or marine and underwater technology. Possess graphic design skills for creating well-organized and aesthetically pleasing layouts for documents and making them more reader friendly. Have experience with video editing tools and production, enhancing your ability to create high-quality instructional videos and multimedia content. Be familiar with content localization and managing the translation processes, including internationalisation. Have a strong empathy for end-users and a user-centric mindset can lead to more effective documentation that meets the needs of your audience. Hold a full driving license.
