Our client is a boutique innovation funding consultancy based in Scotland, specialising in helping businesses access R&D tax relief, grants, and other innovation incentives. They work with a diverse range of clients across multiple sectors, providing expert advice to maximise funding opportunities while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. Due to continued growth, they seek an experienced R&D Tax Manager to join their dynamic team.
Role Overview:
As an R&D Tax Manager, you will play a key role in advising clients on R&D tax relief claims, ensuring they receive the maximum benefit while maintaining compliance with HMRC guidelines. You will lead and manage client engagements, collaborate with technical experts, and oversee the preparation and submission of claims. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional with R&D experience to join a specialist consultancy and contribute to its growth and success.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead the end-to-end management of R&D tax relief claims, from initial assessment to submission.
2. Work closely with clients to understand their business activities, identifying qualifying R&D projects and expenditures.
3. Prepare detailed financial reports to support claims.
4. Ensure claims are accurate, compliant, and optimised for maximum tax relief.
5. Manage relationships with HMRC, responding to queries and supporting clients through compliance checks where necessary.
6. Provide strategic advice to clients on innovation funding opportunities beyond R&D tax credits, such as grants and Patent Box relief.
7. Stay up to date with tax legislation, industry trends, and best practices in R&D tax relief.
8. Mentor and support junior team members, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and professional development.
9. Contribute to business development efforts, identifying opportunities to expand the firm's client base and service offerings.
Key Skills & Experience:
1. Proven experience in R&D tax relief, either from a consultancy, accountancy, or in-house perspective.
2. Strong understanding of UK R&D tax legislation, HMRC guidelines, and best practices.
3. Ability to interpret complex technical and financial information and translate it into clear, concise reports.
4. Excellent client management and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.
5. Analytical mindset with attention to detail and a solutions-driven approach.
6. Experience managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines effectively.
7. ACA, ACCA, CTA, ATT, or other relevant tax/accounting qualification (preferred but not essential).
