Quantity Surveyor
About the Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Quantity Surveyor to join a young, dynamic contractor based in Borehamwood. You will be working on a new build industrial sector project valued at £4.2 million. This is a fantastic role for an ambitious and driven professional who is keen to make their mark on an exciting project and progress their career in the construction industry.
You will be an integral part of the project team, ensuring the project is delivered within budget and to the highest standards. You will focus on cost management, commercial control, and procurement throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation & Budgeting: Assist with the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates for the new build industrial project, including materials, labour, and other associated costs.
Tendering & Procurement: Support the preparation and management of tenders, liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and timely procurement of materials and services.
Cost Control: Monitor and control project costs, ensuring the project stays within budget. Identify any potential cost overruns or savings opportunities and recommend solutions.
Measurement & Valuations: Conduct site visits to measure work completed, prepare progress valuations, and assess variations in scope.
Contract Administration: Ensure all contractual obligations are met, manage variations, and support the management of sub-contractors.
Reporting: Regularly update project progress and cost status to the senior management team. Prepare monthly reports on cost forecasts, progress, and potential risks.
Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and site teams to ensure project timelines are adhered to and to resolve any issues that may affect costs.
Skills and Qualifications:
A Degree or HNC in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
A minimum of 4-5 years' experience working as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally within the commercial or industrial construction sectors.
Familiarity with JCT contracts, cost management software, and traditional procurement methods.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to interact with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and cost management software (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam).
Desirable:
Experience in working on new build projects in the industrial sector.
Working knowledge of value engineering and cost-saving techniques.
A proactive attitude with a willingness to develop and take on more responsibility.
