The Temporary Assistant Stockperson is a vital member of a highly effective, practical team of staff that deliver a significant, multi-site conservation grazing operation across the two counties. Reporting to the Head stockperson, this role will not only be crucial to the successful delivery of the Trust’s Wilder strategy but also contribute to the welfare and husbandry of the Trust’s livestock. The role will support the delivery of effective and appropriate conservation grazing across the Trust’s estate and on sites within the Trust’s contract grazing service, working closely with and supporting those who have day to day responsibility for the sites themselves. Under the guidance of the Head Stockperson and Senior Estates Manager, the post holder will be responsible for carrying out practical estate works, farm infrastructure and maintenance tasks, grassland management tasks along with all aspects of livestock husbandry. The post will also support the Trust’s ability to fulfil its legal and contractual obligations associated with conservation grazing as well as meeting public safety obligations. The post will be physically demanding and will necessitate someone with good practical abilities. It also requires flexible working and on-call duties as part of a rota system, often during unsociable hours. Previous knowledge of agriculture and livestock husbandry is essential.
