Job overview
Whether you are newly qualified or an experienced band 5 nurse, you’ll find a fascinating specialty that continuously develops and expands as you will too.
We are one of the largest Cath Lab Centres in the UK and have a reputation worldwide for clinical, teaching, and research excellence. The Cardiac Catheter Laboratory is part of a tertiary centre, which incorporates an extensive referral area, offering a 24-hour Primary Myocardial Infarction service. The Cath labs consist of 3 Cath Labs, 1 hybrid theatre, and have been steadily expanding over the years, achieving a high profile within the organisation due to the provision of excellent standards of patient care and the delivery of a world-class service.
We offer a full development programme; this includes Trust Induction, Introduction to Cardiology course, a period of supernumerary whilst working alongside your mentor to achieve all the required competencies to give you the confidence to work independently, commencement of the on-call rota, and having your first appraisal and career conversation.
With an on-call commitment allowing extra earning potential, and private work paid at a very competitive hourly rate, and occasionally waiting list initiatives also paid at the same rate, there is a great opportunity to significantly increase your annual salary.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of the cardiac cath lab Multidisciplinary team assisting medical staff with diagnostic and interventional procedures, angiogram, PCI, Pacing, and EP-study. We also provide a very complex Electrophysiology service and busy structural heart service. In this Theatre style environment, the nurse will have both scrub and circulating duties. There is a requirement to wear lead PPE during the procedures.
You will be required to promote, maintain, and deliver patient-centred care and a highly professional standard of nursing, meeting the needs of the patients during cath lab procedures. You will act as a professional role model and provide an effective, safe environment to care for individual patients and promote a positive experience for the patient, their relatives, and carers.
As a tertiary centre, this incorporates an extensive referral area. We provide a 24hrs Primary PCI service, and the post holder will be expected to be part of the emergency on-call team after a training period has ended. You will be required to maintain and continually develop nursing practice relevant to the clinical area.
We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship, we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.
