About the team SRUC Veterinary Services provides disease surveillance and analytical testing via our Veterinary and Analytical Laboratory and our network of disease surveillance hubs situated throughout Scotland. We provide national veterinary disease surveillance for the Scottish Government and collaborate with APHA to support statutory disease control schemes. Our Veterinary Services team are experts in animal disease diagnosis, and we process over one million animal and material samples each year. Close links with research and development activities within SRUC and in several other academic and research institutions ensure that our UK, EU and international clients benefit from practical support coupled with expert scientific advice. Our suite of services supports clients like vets, farmers and pharmaceutical companies by providing diagnostic testing for farm livestock and companion animals, as well as livestock health schemes, livestock health planning, veterinary CPD courses and external quality assessment schemes. About the opportunity The primary objective of this position is to prepare and process samples for both internal laboratories and external service providers, manage the couriering of samples, and perform general administrative tasks. Key Responsibilities: Depending on location () and team needs, the role includes: Unpacking, prioritizing, and distributing incoming sample submissions. Handling telephone, email, and Teams queries from internal and external customers. Contacting veterinary practices and/or farm clients to resolve queries. Manually processing veterinary samples, including labelling. Registering, moving submissions/samples, and entering results in LIMS and/or Health Scheme databases. Utilising Excel applications for data management. Providing administrative support to staff within VAL/health schemes. Performing basic finance duties. Robotic processing of serology samples (). Aliquoting samples. Driving to collect samples from local veterinary practices. Developing and maintaining a thorough understanding of the rules of the health schemes and BVD schemes, and advising clients on testing requirements (). Minimum qualifications and experience: Educated to at least SCQF Level 5 in subjects including Maths, Science and English.
