Swimming is a vital life skill, and we are looking for Level 1 qualified applicants to join us, helping ensure that lessons are available for learners of all ages and abilities across our community.
Hours, Pay and Benefits
Pay: Real Living Wage (currently £12.00 per hour)
Hours: We currently have a number of shifts we are looking to fill at both locations. There will also be the opportunity to cover other shifts during times of absence.

Key Experiences and Qualifications
Essential
1. ASA/STA Level 1 Assistant Swimming Teaching qualification
2. Practical knowledge of the Learn to Swim Wales programme
3. Knowledge and understanding of child protection policies in a swimming pool environment
4. Experience in assisting with the organisation, planning, and delivery of structured swimming sessions; adapting to varying needs, abilities, and ages
Beneficial
5. STA/RLSS Lifesaving Teacher qualification
6. Relevant adult and child teaching qualification
7. Experience working with people with a disability in sport
8. Ability to communicate in Welsh
Role Requirements
Our swimming teachers (both level 1 and level 2) are pivotal members of the team, delivering and maintaining effective and high-quality swimming lessons for children, young people, and adults, as part of our Integrated Swimming Programme, which is run at both the Regional Pool & Tennis Centre (located in Newport International Sports Village) and the Active Living Centre (located in Newport High School).
Main duties include:
9. Teaching swim lessons following the new Learn to Swim Wales teaching framework, as part of the City's Integrated Swimming Programme
10. Prepare, implement, and evaluate schemes of work in order to ensure continual development of all swim learners
11. Maintain accurate records of all participants, including attendance, attainment, and progress
12. Promote swimming and help provide links to relevant aquatic clubs to children and parents who attend the weekly Learn to Swim programme
13. Safe preparation of facilities and equipment as required by the Learn to Swim programme, and for checking set-up of facilities and equipment undertaken by Recreation Assistants
14. Ensuring safe compliance with all statutory legal requirements, and in particular the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and Child Protection Act
15. Willingness to assist in organising and delivering swimming galas and events
16. Undertake training as/when required as part of the Swimming Development continual development programme
17. Attend swim teachers' forums/meetings as and when requested
