As a Digital Skills Support Volunteer, you will provide valuable help by sharing your skills and experience with Shaw Trust’s participants whilst they are receiving support from one of our programmes What difference will you make? Shaw Trust provides employment opportunities, skills development training, and health and wellbeing services across the UK. We operate charitable social enterprises and retail shops, and work alongside Shaw Education Trust, which runs a diverse chain of academy schools. We add value to every service we deliver by investing back into community projects, such as our social enterprises, Community Hubs and national volunteering scheme. Volunteers help us achieve our aim of empowering people and supporting them towards employment and/or helping with their mental health and wellbeing. They also help in our schools and Social Enterprises and they help us run our charity shops too. What are we looking for? Ability to provide structured teaching sessions. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Have an empathetic approach. IT skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office software. Ability to facilitate group sessions. Confident acting independently and providing remote support. Able to volunteer as part of an extended team. Understanding of data protection and GDPR. Awareness of barriers faced by people who have faced disadvantages such as disabilities, care leavers and ill mental health. What will you be doing? This role could include Teaching basic, everyday IT skills to groups or one-to-one, in person or virtually. Share knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and video-calling for personal and professional uses. Teaching people to create professional email accounts on a range of sites (Gmail, Outlook etc) and how to use them. Sharing information security tips to help participants keep themselves and their data safe. Responding to individual needs such as how to use the internet for research, banking, shopping, housing and benefits services, GP appointments etc. Demonstrate backing up important information/files/documents using a cloud or external storage device. Offering accessibility support by teaching participants how to set up, use controls and adapt accessibility needs on any device.
