Job Summary
An exciting part time vacancy has arisen within the Newborn Hearing Screening Service. We are looking for a hearing screener to work in postnatal maternity wards and outpatient clinics carrying out the hearing screen for all eligible newborn babies in South West London and Kingston Hospital.
The SWL Newborn Hearing Screening service is carried out across 6 hospitals in the South West London and Surrey areas. These include Croydon, Kingston, St George's, Epsom and St Helier hospitals and The Portland. Travel will be required for this post for screening and training requirements.
We are looking for caring, motivated, conscientious individuals with a flexible, adaptable approach. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential, preferably with experience of working with young babies and children and their families.
The post requires being able to work well as part of a team and on your own initiative. You must be methodical and well organised, and it is essential for you to be able to prioritise your own workload to ensure that all babies are screened.
Main Duties of the Job
You will be working with dedicated supportive and caring teams who have a strong commitment to a flexible and co-operative working environment. Working as part of a team altering working patterns to accommodate the changing needs of the service, across 7 days a week, with regular working during weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), bank and public holidays.
We offer a full training package; you will be fully supported throughout your learning journey. Trained to use specialist equipment, gain informed verbal consent and all aspects of the role. Established screeners with over 10 years' experience will ensure you have the confidence and knowledge to provide an exceptional experience to our patients and deliver safe, quality, and efficient care. You will have a dedicated assessor to support you with completing an External Competency Assessment and Mandatory Level 3 Health Screener Diploma.
Alongside self-directed study, protected time is incorporated into your working week to enable you to achieve the required standards and your very best. Approximately 5 hours per week commitment will be required. You will be working closely with maternity colleagues, children's wards, doctors, and nurses in special care units. To ensure babies requiring further tests are seen quickly, you will also work closely with audiology teams agreeing appointments before families are discharged home.
