Band 5 Biomedical Scientist Histology, 37.5 hours per week 12 month fixed term contract
Salary: Biomedical Scientist (£29,970 to £36,483)
Based at the Cumberland Infirmary, Histology Department.
Applications are invited from HCPC registered BMS's with experience in Histology.
The Histology department is UKAS ISO 15189 accredited. We use Telepath LIMS with ICE electronic requesting and reporting, and Q-Pulse quality management system.
Main duties of the job
The diagnostic workload in Histology is approximately 24,000 requests.
The main duties of the job will include:
1. Sample processing
2. Embedding
3. Microtomy
4. IHC
5. Special stains
6. Category A tissue dissection
The department is approved for training by the HCPC and IBMS, and you will be encouraged to participate in CPD. You should demonstrate good planning, organisational, and interpersonal skills, as well as evidence of competence in problem solving and prioritising workloads. Excellent communication skills are essential for this post.

* BSc in biomedical science or equivalent. HCPC registration.

* Underpinning theory of laboratory practice in area of chosen discipline.
* Laboratory health and safety, COSHH, and risk assessment.
* Continuing professional development with portfolio.

Other requirements
* Flexible approach to working unsocial hours including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
* Ability to travel independently between sites.
