Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant - Year 5 (Challenging Behaviour)

Hours: 8:30 am - 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant primary school located in Heywood, Lancashire. The successful candidate will work specifically within Year 5, providing crucial support to a pupil exhibiting challenging behaviours. This is a full-time role, ideal for someone with previous experience in a similar setting who is looking to expand their expertise while making a tangible difference in a child's educational journey.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide 1:1 support to a Year 5 pupil with challenging behaviours, encouraging positive interactions and engagement with learning activities.
2. Develop and implement effective strategies to manage behaviours in collaboration with the class teacher and SENCO.
3. Assist with the planning and delivery of individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to the pupil's unique needs.
4. Facilitate a calm, supportive, and structured learning environment to help the pupil achieve their educational and behavioural goals.
5. Maintain ongoing communication with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to the pupil's learning and development.
6. Employ a proactive approach to anticipate potential behavioural issues and intervene early to mitigate disruptions.
7. Participate in training and professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices for supporting pupils with challenging behaviours.
8. Perform additional duties as required to support the general operation of the classroom and the school.
Essential Qualifications and Attributes:
1. Relevant Classroom-based experience supporting children with SEND, particularly those with challenging behaviours.
2. Proven track record of working 1:1 with pupils to facilitate their learning and development.
3. A calm and patient demeanor, capable of handling difficult situations with composure and empathy.
4. Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with staff, pupils, and parents.
5. An understanding of safeguarding procedures and the importance of child welfare.
6. A proactive mindset with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
7. A commitment to ongoing professional development and learning.
8. An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
Desirable Qualifications:
1. Relevant SEND qualification or training.
2. First Aid training or willingness to undergo training.
