The Role
Who we appoint to be our next Deputy Head Academic will be one of our most important decisions this decade.
We are looking for an outstanding teacher, a visionary leader, and an experienced professional who will not settle for anything less than excellence in whatever form that looks for every pupil. The successful candidate will value and promote inclusion and have the skills to support a diverse school community.
The appointee will be a strong, dynamic, and inspirational character who is not afraid to take risks and thinks creatively. A track record of first rate teaching, significant curriculum leadership and organisation, as well as a rapport with pupils and colleagues is vital, as well as significant experience of teaching pupils with special educational needs.
The nature of this role, coupled with the demand for creative future facing leadership of the curriculum and teaching, requires a professional who demonstrates sophisticated research led, evidence based practice. If we are to reimagine education for the middle of the twenty first century, we need to know what works and where the spaces for innovation exist.
The ability to inspire others, communicate well, think flexibly, and to lead, create, and work as part of a team are essential. High level analytical and data handling skills will be essential to successfully delivering the DHA’s strategic aims.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications, skills and experience, and personal qualities:
Qualifications
* Good honours degree essential
* Significant teaching experience (with QTS) at senior school level (essential)
* Significant experience of working with pupils with SEND (essential)
* Post graduate educational degree (desirable)
Skills and Experience
* Experience of leading a subject area or specific are of the school
* Experience of whole school academic leadership
* Outstanding track record as teacher
* Evidence o f understanding of the broader academic opportunities available to pupils including GCSE, BTEC and A Level
* Proven experience of leading and managing innovation and change
* Strong IT skills, especially in data handling and analysis
Personal Qualities
* Strong communication skills, both interpersonal and in public
* Decisive and confident in organisational management
* Possessing the capacity to analyse and improve systems
* Personable, supportive and able to motivate and work in a team
* Sense of humour
* A personal commitment to putting children at the heart of decision making
Safeguarding
The post-holder is responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people for whom they are responsible, or with whom they come into contact, and will adhere to and ensure compliance with the School’s Safeguarding (Child Protection) Policy at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the post the post-holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the School s/he must report any concerns to the School’s Designated Safeguarding Lead or to the Headteacher.
