Highways Engineer
Location: Bristol
Salary: Up to £45k (DOE)
Our client is seeking to grow their busy infrastructure team with the appointment of a Highways Engineer to assist with both their flood risk assessment (FRA), drainage and highway design capabilities. Their team are working on a wide variety of interesting projects ranging from small residential schemes to new film production studios and garden village new settlements.
They are looking for someone with anything between 2-5 years' experience, having worked primarily in the consultancy side of the industry on behalf of private developers, and ideally being proficient in the use of relevant drainage and 3D software. Your workload will be varied, working under instruction from the principal engineers and supporting them in preparing reporting (FRA's), SUDS strategies and drainage designs on some projects, and then S278 highway design and S38 designs on others.
The role would, therefore, suit someone who is yet to have decided to focus on one aspect of engineering but keen to learn and develop their skills in all areas. Specific requirements are as follows, though they would be willing to speak to candidates who have different levels of experience in each.
Responsibilities:
• Carrying out desktop flood risk assessments on sites varying in size across all flood zones
• Producing surface and foul water drainage strategies and drawings, including SuDS strategies
• Preparing flood risk assessment and drainage strategy reports
• Undertake hydraulic drainage modelling using Infodrainage/Site 3D/Civils 3D
• Preparing responses to comments from the local planning authority/LLFA/highway authorities/RSA Teams etc
• Undertake detailed design of below ground drainage, including production of drawings
• Liaison with design team and stakeholders
• Making applications such as pre-application enquiries, S104/S106, EA consents, S278/S38 Etc
• S278/S38 highway design. Undertake the feasibility, preliminary and detailed design of highways schemes to MfS, DMRB and local authority standards using AutoCAD software
• Production of 2d CAD drawings and 3D models
Knowledge/Experience:
• Production of original written drainage strategy reports and flood risk assessments
• Design of below ground drainage (surface and foul) for highways, commercial, retail, residential and industrial sectors including SuDS, to relevant standards
• Proficient in the use of relevant design software: AutoCAD, Civils 3D and/or Site 3D, Microdrainage and/or Infodrainage
• Experienced in 3D modelling using Civil3D and/or Site3D or similar software
