Based in the City of York, our client is a well-established and recognised market leading creator of innovative creative play and electronic products for the UK Toy market. The business has grown successfully since its launch 6 years ago, and now occupies a strong position in the market. Customers include high street national retailers, on-line retailers, department stores and toy specialists. Their extensive knowledge of the toy industry has allowed them to develop two innovative market leading brands in a short space of time.
Due to ambitious growth aspirations and the need for effective succession planning, this £Multi-Million T/O PE backed business now seeks to appoint a talented and experienced Operations and Commercial Director who can drive expansion whilst also increasing performance, profitability, and market share. The new person will work closely with the CEO who will mentor and support the new appointee. They will also enjoy a significant level of autonomy and enjoy a stimulating and rewarding high profile role with a genuine opportunity to succeed the CEO as UK MD.
The Role
Reporting to the Co-Owner and CEO you will oversee the general management of the UK business and further develop and deliver the ongoing commercial and operational strategy. The Operations and Commercial Director will work closely with all business units and departments to ensure they are working effectively to deliver against the strategy, ensuring all sales, financial and customer service objectives are met. You will also be accountable for:
1. Overseeing the drive in operational performance including Supply Chain, Warehousing and Distribution, Logistics and Transportation.
2. Implementing commercial strategy that maximises sales via multiple channels, ensuring Sales, Marketing and Digital are run in a sensible, logical, and profitable way and in line with the company’s strategy and ethos. Oversee the marketing/digital budget spend.
3. Team Leadership, inspire, mentor and develop a high performing team, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
4. Process optimisation, monitor, optimise and further develop processes to drive efficiency and performance.
5. Represent the company at Global industry events and build strong relationships with key partners and stakeholders.
6. Manage budgets and financial performance, ensuring profitability and continued financial stability.
The Requirements
Coming from a multi-channel, wholesale/retail/distribution background, you will have at least 10 years senior operations and commercial management experience, ideally from within the Toy industry or other Consumer Goods sector. Not overly corporate, highly proactive and self-motivated, you will have a proven track record of delivering growth and profitability. Hands on with an entrepreneurial spirit, a first-class leader, influencer, and communicator, you will be commercially astute and highly customer focused.
Analytical and with strong business acumen you will be able to cut through multiple sources of data to understand complex business issues and add value to their resolution. You will also be able to demonstrate:
1. Leadership and success
2. A proven track record on B2B sales, marketing and E-Commerce
3. Experience of defining and implementing an overall company strategy
4. P&L Accountability
Experience of working in a PE backed business would be advantageous.
