o The complexity of cases
o The risk associated with cases
o The profile and potential publicity surrounding a case which will service to increase the pressure placed on the named Social Worker.
o In some instances where a case is of sufficient size, profile and risk it may be appropriate for an Advanced Practitioner to work solely on that case until completion.
Manages a workload of the most complex cases which includes looked after children, child protection and assessment of carers. The caseload is dependent on:
* Have an increased level of autonomy and decision making, based on experience and knowledge, around the cases allocated and report to an Assistant Service Manager on the progress of those cases.

o Carry out assessment and investigations into cases involving significant harm, child protection or assessment of carers and compile reports to case conferences, courts/statutory panels in accordance with statutory procedures and best practice.
o Adhere to statutory legislation and service priorities.
o Implement, monitor and review plans relating to the assessed need of children and young people, their families and carers.
o Chair some practice meetings in order to ensure the regular review of plans and make any necessary amendments.
o Produce assessments of need for children and young people in line with statutory regulations and ensure that services are available to meet those needs.
o Undertake statutory supervision and care planning in relation to children who are looked after.
o Maintain up to date records of cases using management information systems.
In managing cases:
* Act as a Practice Teacher to students on placement.
* Co-work difficult cases with the allocated Social Worker to allow less experienced staff to benefit from the expertise and experience of an Advanced Practitioner were they have available capacity.
* Maintain performance and develop practice and experience in line with personal targets as agreed with the Senior Fieldwork Manager through supervision.
* Contribute to the achievement of Key Performance Indicators identified through service planning.
* Work to the prescribed quality standards for service provision set out by the service for all workers.
Qualifications:
* Social Work Qualification (SW Degree, DipSW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent) and current HCPC registration
* Recognised practice teaching qualification is desirable (Stage 2 PEPS), alternatively requirement to attend the PEPS 1 and 2 course to attain qualification and practice teach students.
Knowledge:
* Extensive knowledge of relevant Children and Families legislation including public and private law proceedings.
* Knowledge and understanding of the legislative, political and social policy context in which children’s social services and their partner agencies operate.
* Knowledge and understanding of local authority structures, services, policies and procedures
* Knowledge and understanding of media reporting around Social Work and complex Child Protection cases, including an awareness of current issues pertinent to social care and media relations.
* Knowledge of social work practice issues.
* Extensive knowledge of case law proceedings particularly those undertaken under the Children Act 1989 and subsequent amendments and the Adoption and Children Act 2002.
* Expert knowledge of social work theory and methods that underpin practice.
* In depth knowledge of current research findings and the implications for practice.
* In depth knowledge of the Integrated Children’s System and application to practise.
Experience:
* Extensive post qualification experience in Children and Families Work in a Local Authority Social Services statutory setting with demonstrable experience in child protection.
* Significant experience working in a multi-agency environment and liaising with a variety of agencies and partners.
Skills & Abilities:
* Highly developed social work skills in complex assessment, care planning and family court proceedings.
* Ability to prepare and coach social workers through assessment and care planning processes and court proceedings.
* Ability to communicate, negotiate and effectively influence a wide range of practitioners, managers and colleagues from other agencies.
* Ability to form partnerships with children and adults in challenging circumstances in ways that empower service users and promote anti-discriminatory practice.
* Ability to present and disseminate information in a way that supports the understanding, learning and development of social care staff and professional partners.
