An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Patient Services Assistant (PSA) on:
• Ward 29 - which specialists in the older adult, has a 30 hours per week contract available to support with nutrition and hydration.
• This role is a 7 day service and it is expected that you are fully flexible, including weekends and bank holidays.
You will work as part of an integrated team, guided by local and Trust policy and procedure.
This will involve carrying our non-nursing duties as delegated by the Registered Nurse, using initiative within the level of competence expected for the role. To assist and support members of the multi disciplinary team in order to provide a high standard of patient centred care, whilst demonstrating care and compassion in meeting the patient's needs.
The PSA will focus on supporting the nutrition needs of patients, and this will include:
Taking on the role of 'nutrition coordinator' at mealtimes, liaising with nursing staff to ensure that patients are sitting out or up in bed and ready to eat. The PSA will ensure the patients have hand hygiene wipes available and offer help where needed, ensure the correct cutlery and aids are available and that the 'red tray' system is implemented.
Assisting patients at mealtimes and helping them with food where appropriate.
Working alongside nursing staff to promote 'first a drink', helping patients with drinks to support hydration.
Supporting patients to complete their menus, offering help as required and ensuring that the correct menus (including special diets, snack menus, finger food etc.) are ordered.
Completing food and fluid charts. escalating concerns to nursing staff.
Keeping nutrition board up to dates.
Additional duties to support the nursing team as required.
