The Operations Technician is responsible on a day-to-day basis for operating the Treatment Processes associated with the WTP (Water Treatment Plant), Cooling Water treatment, and the SNCR – Reverse Osmosis plants. As well as daily operational routines, the Operations Technician will be expected to implement front-line Planned Maintenance tasks as part of their role.
The key objectives of the role are:
1. Operate the water/Effluent treatment plants and associated equipment to ensure that water quality and quantity produced are within the specifications required by the customer.
2. Carry out front-line maintenance as required.
3. Carry out duties in a safe manner to ensure minimal risk of harm to people or the environment as a result of plant operations.
4. Monitor the performance of the assets and take actions to ensure optimal performance at all times.
5. Communicate with other members of the NSI and Customer teams to ensure understanding regarding plant performance, activities, and impacts on site-wide operations.
6. Perform isolations and de-isolations as required to facilitate work on assets.
7. Ensure the safe delivery of bulk chemicals to storage tanks.
8. Raise work orders for plant maintenance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Operate the plant safely and report safety concerns.
2. Comply with NSI and customer HSE policies and systems.
3. Ensure no harm to the environment.
4. Use chemicals efficiently for the WTP process.
5. Monitor plant performance to ensure correct operation.
6. Assess when operational maintenance is required for individual process units.
7. Check inventory of operational consumables and request reorders as needed.
8. Prepare Risk Assessments and Method Statements for non-routine work.
9. Develop strong relationships with clients' operational staff.
10. Inform the Team Leader of any changes in plant status impacting operations.
11. Attend shift handovers and ensure effective communication.
12. Seek improvements and innovations in operational procedures.
13. Maintain plant availability and performance in line with KPIs and specifications.
14. Ensure adequate supply of consumables and chemicals.
15. Carry out operational maintenance and share knowledge with colleagues.
Required Skills/Qualifications (Essential):
* Training in Environmental Health and Safety.
* Team player with attention to detail and a positive attitude.
* Basic computer literacy.
* Strong commitment to safe working practices.
Required Skills/Qualifications (Desirable):
* Knowledge of Water Treatment Plants, Ion Exchange processes, or related operations.
* Ability to interpret technical information from drawings, P&IDs, data sheets, etc.
* Experience working within a quality system.
* NVQ in a relevant discipline.
* Basic EMI repairs and maintenance training.
* Ability to perform basic repairs and maintenance.
Working for us means:
* Salary between £26,000 & £31,000 per year, depending on experience.
* Overtime at x1.5 rate.
* Holidays – 39.6 hours per week on shift rota.
