Help us secure a healthy environment for the Square Mile.
Maintaining and enhancing the City of London’s environment is both a pleasure and a challenge. Home to a range of tourist attractions such as St Pauls Cathedral and the Monument, the City welcomes millions of visitors each year. Furthermore, this densely populated area is the economic hub of the UK, with hundreds of thousands of workers flooding the streets every day, while the scale of development results in a level of construction activity that is immense both above and below ground. Balancing the needs of everyone in the area, it is therefore up to the City of London Corporation to secure the ongoing success and wellbeing of our communities by developing and implementing effective environmental health controls – and that’s where you come in.
Taking on a key role within our Public Protection Division, you will manage the Pollution Control statutory function. We will look to you to manage, deliver and develop the services and resources of your team. Recognised as our lead expert in the areas of noise, private sector housing, contaminated land, water quality and other environmental health you will be a key point of authoritative advice and direction, and ensure the team is represented on the City’s committees and working groups. You will also manage and deliver the City’s Construction Levy and out of hours noise service. With technical knowledge that more than matches your managerial and leadership skills, your insights will shape and deliver strategies, policies and procedures, and help to resolve complex problems.
To be equal to the challenge, you will need either a BSc, MSc or similar qualification in Environmental Health, approved by the CIEH. Registered with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (EHORB) to practice as an Environmental Health Officer in the UK, a postgraduate qualification in a relevant field and you also have Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner status (or equivalent). Your experience in a local authority-based regulatory services environment includes people management, and liaison with colleagues across Government departments. Your excellent relationship management and diplomacy skills will equip you to strengthen our bonds with key partners. With a track record of service planning, development and management, and a proven ability to keep up to date with changes in technology and industry practice, you are ready to make an impact.
The success of a vibrant Square Mile is a team effort. We work collaboratively to make the best use of resources, supporting other departments in their activities as we strive to produce consistently excellent results for our residents, workers and visitors. If that’s an environment that you think you could flourish in, we’d love to discuss how we can work together to support the ongoing success of the City of London.
