Assistant Headteacher – Special Educational Needs – Interim
Are you an Assistant Headteacher or Senior Leader who is available for a new interim challenge? This vibrant Birmingham special school is looking for an Assistant Headteacher with previous experience leading within a SEND school to support the leadership team for the remainder of the academic year.
This school specialises in providing an outstanding education for students who have autism as their primary diagnosis, and the Headteacher is happy to consider an Assistant Headteacher from either a primary or secondary background. This role requires an experienced Assistant Headteacher who loves working within special schools and helping children to thrive in education! Ideally you will have previous leadership experience within a setting that supports children with Autism, MLD, Communication Impairment, or physical disabilities. Job Role:
1. Acting as an Assistant Headteacher with a focus on teaching and learning strategies.
2. Supporting the Headteacher in the day-to-day running of the school.
3. Leading and mentoring teaching assistants and classroom staff in your role as Assistant Headteacher.
4. Working closely with the SENDCO to ensure that all pupils' learning needs are met.
5. Developing and implementing Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs) as an Assistant Headteacher.
6. Engaging with parents, carers, and external agencies to support pupil progress.
Requirements:
1. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with experience in a SEND setting.
2. Previous experience as an Assistant Headteacher or in a leadership role within a SEND school.
3. A strong understanding of moderate to severe learning needs and how to support them.
4. The ability to motivate and support staff in your role as Assistant Headteacher.
5. Experience in safeguarding and promoting pupil well-being.
