Summary
A 'Good' School with Outstanding features is seeking a forward-thinking and passionate Science Teacher to join them ASAP. This is a full-time long-term supply role with a view of becoming permanent for the right person.

The Science Department

Main Areas of Responsibility
The purpose of your role will be:
1. To plan, resource and deliver lessons and sequences of lessons to the highest standard, thereby ensuring meaningful learning takes place and pupils make rapid and sustained progress.
2. To develop one's own teaching practice to a level of advanced proficiency.
3. To fully implement all academy routines and techniques for creating a culture of high expectations.
4. To contribute to the enrichment, extra-curricular and raising aspirations programmes.
5. To provide daily pastoral tutoring to a form group.
6. To contribute to the effective daily working of the academy.
Your main areas of responsibility will fall under the areas of:
1. With direction from the Head of Department and within the context of the academy's curriculum and schemes of work, to plan and prepare effective teaching schemes and lessons.
2. To teach engaging and effective lessons that motivate, inspire and improve pupil attainment.
3. To use regular assessments to set targets for pupils, monitor pupil progress and respond accordingly to the results of such monitoring.
4. To produce/contribute to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual and groups of pupils.
5. To develop plans and processes for the classroom with measurable results and evaluate those results to make improvements in pupil achievement.
6. To ensure that all pupils achieve at least expected progress and most pupils make more than expected progress.
7. To maintain regular and productive communication with pupils, parents and carers, to report on progress, sanctions and rewards and all other communications.
8. To provide or contribute to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual pupils and groups of pupils.
9. To direct and supervise support staff assigned to lessons and when required participate in related recruitment and selection activities.
10. To implement and adhere to the academies behaviour management policy, ensuring the health and well-being of pupils is always maintained.
11. To participate in preparing pupils for external examinations.
Qualifications & Experience
The successful candidate will:
1. Open to Unqualified Science Teachers.
2. Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree.
3. Have successful teaching experience at secondary level (can be teaching practice), ideally including experience in multi-ethnic urban schools and of working in an 11-18 school.
4. Up to date knowledge in the curriculum area.
5. An understanding of what an outstanding education looks like in the classroom.
6. An understanding of the strategies needed to establish consistently high expectations.
7. Good communication, planning, and organisational skills.
8. Demonstrates resilience, motivation, and commitment to driving up standards of achievement.
9. Acts as a role model to staff and pupils.
10. Commitment to regular and ongoing professional development and training to establish outstanding classroom practice.
