Contract type: Fixed term for 24 months in the first instance
Hours: Full-time
About the role
We are looking for a Program Manager to help set up and run a new biomedical research facility in Oxford – the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences Bioresource (NDSB). You will be based at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as your normal place of work (primarily the John Radcliffe, occasionally at the Churchill Hospital) with the opportunity for some remote working. Initially, this will be a varied and complex project management role helping to set up the new service. Longer term you will have operational and business management of the service, along with project managing research run by NDSB.
NDSB will be a merger of several existing biobanks within the department. The first phase of your role will involve project managing the set-up of NDSB, bringing together the various teams joining NDSB. You will audit and review operational and business processes, policies, protocols, and staff roles, and assist the new Director in shaping the new structure of NDSB, which we anticipate to expand the number of staff in the team.
After the initial set-up phase is complete, which is envisaged to take around one year, you will take over day-to-day operational management of the service. You will line manage the team and prioritise team tasks, arrange meetings, oversee biobank applications and workflow, and manage finances - supported by a dedicated team of staff you have helped put into place.
This role is focused on a tissue-based research service; however, it is not anticipated that you will be directly involved in laboratory work or patient interaction, and you will not be expected to be responsible for overseeing REC/Governance or HTA aspects of the service.
About you
You will be educated to postgraduate level (MBA or relevant PGCert/Dip) and will have extensive experience in project and business management in the university or research sector. A key component in this role is the development of successful working relationships across the University, the NHS, external collaborators, and other organisations.
This full-time post is fixed-term at 2 years initially, but we aim to renew if the service is profitable. The post is available to start immediately.
Application Process
If you would like to discuss this role please contact the NDSB Director Richard Colling (richard.colling@nds.ox.ac.uk) or NDS Head of Administration and Finance Joke Snoeck (joke.snoeck@nds.ox.ac.uk).
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a supporting statement, setting out how you meet the selection criteria, curriculum vitae and the names and contact details of two referees as part of your online application. Please quote reference NDSA945 on all correspondence.
Only applications received before noon 19 November 2024 can be considered. Interviews will be held 2 December 2024.
