Nottingham CityCare Partnership Childrens Public Health 0-19 Nursing Service are looking for Breastfeeding Peer Support Workers to work across Nottingham City.
We are looking for people, who have personal experience of breastfeeding, to join our teams of Health Visitors, School Nurses, Family Nurses and support staff working in a think family way, working together to support families to feed their baby their way while enjoying healthier lifestyles.
We serve a very diverse population, it would be beneficial if you speak another language.
We have both full and part time positions available, your preference will be discussed at interview.
Nottingham CityCare Partnership is a dynamic Social Enterprise, providing a broad range of services to children and adults. The Childrens Public Health 0-19 Nursing Service teams deliver Public Health interventions as part of the A Better Start service across Nottingham City (formally known as Health Visiting and School Nursing Services).
Main duties of the job
As part of the team, you will be supporting women and their families with their breastfeeding journey, promoting, and supporting breast feeding through telephone contacts, home visits and breastfeeding groups. You will support them from before the baby is born through the first few days and weeks after the baby is born, then in our breastfeeding groups.

Job Purpose
1. In recognition of the profound importance of early relationships to future health and wellbeing and the significant contribution that breastfeeding makes to good physical and emotional health outcomes for children and mothers, Nottingham CityCare Partnership (NCCP) is committed to providing the highest standard of care to support expectant and new mothers and their partners to feed their baby their way and build strong and loving parent-infant relationships.
2. To work across Nottingham City as part of a geographically based skill mix team that delivers Childrens 0-19 Public Health Nursing Services supporting the delivery of breastfeeding focused interventions, as part of the Healthy Child Programme, to children and families.
3. Your role will be to engage with pregnant and postnatal parents, and their partners, in their homes, by telephone and in virtual/face to face clinics and groups in the community.
4. You will support them to responsively feed their babies their way (breast milk or combination) in the antenatal period and first six weeks of the postnatal period, with an emphasis on those who are less likely to initiate or maintain breastfeeding.
5. You will offer Brief intervention support and signposting for healthier lifestyle choices.
6. Your focus is breastfeeding support encouraging and supporting healthy nutrition in the antenatal contact and first six weeks of the postnatal period with an emphasis on those who are less likely to initiate or maintain breastfeeding.
7. Your practice must adhere to clinical guidelines, policies, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) both on a local and national level and you must demonstrate Nottingham CityCare Partnership CIC values and behaviours in all you do.

8. To work under the direction and leadership of the Childrens Public Health 0-19 NursingService Management, Specialist Community Public Health Nurses, other appropriate teammembers.
9. You will support the delivery of high-quality services to children and their families in Nottingham as part of the Giving Nottingham Children the Best Start In Life contract.
10. You are expected work in a cost-effective way ensuring responsible use of public funds.
11. You will participate in management, safeguarding supervision and annual appraisal.
12. The core service hours are to 5pm, Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays.
Key Responsibilities
Quality and Performance
13. Undertake Healthy Child Programme infant and maternal breastfeeding public health interventions delegated by the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN).
14. To provide breastfeeding peer support to pregnant and postnatal women, working within local policy and procedure, UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative and national guidelines.
15. To engage with pregnant and postnatal women at home, via telephone support and in community groups.
16. To build relationships with those who would like to and are breastfeeding, in order to support improved infant nutrition outcomes.
17. To work closely with professionals, including Health Visitors, Midwives and Family Nurses, in order to support breastfeeding initiation and maintenance.
18. To support with breastfeeding and community groups, ensuring that rooms are set up for groups/clinics, that equipment is clean, that health promotion literature is available and health promotion displays are up to date.
19. Promote Healthy Start and the appropriate use of Vitamin D for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers and babies.
20. To offer brief intervention and signposting for healthier lifestyle choices around healthier eating and increased physical exercise for the family.
21. To be flexible as required in supporting service delivery across the whole City.
22. Signpost clients to additional ratified support and resources, Feed Your Way, Specialist Infant Feeding Clinic.
23. To maintain contemporaneous healthcare records using SystmOne in line with National and Nottingham CityCares policies and procedures.
24. Work using own initiative within the limitations of the role; always promoting high quality care and Nottingham CityCares values and behaviours.
25. Participate in breast feeding incentives as required.
26. Undertake any other duties which may be reasonably required within the remit of the role.

27. To share best practice and experiential knowledge to support mothers to breastfeed.
28. Work closely with professionals including Nutrition Peer Support Workers, Breastfeeding Support Volunteers to coordinate care.
29. To work in accordance with Nottingham City Safeguarding Childrens Board procedures; and to access and participate in safeguarding supervision in line with local policy.
30. Support the team and organisation to provide a learning environment and experience for new staff and students.

Knowledge, training and experience
41. To attend mandatory and essential and role specific training sessions as defined by Nottingham CityCare Partnership.
42. To have an understanding of CityCare policies and procedures related to your clinical role.
43. To attend safeguarding supervision on a regular basis in accordance with Nottingham CityCare Partnership guidelines.
44. To receive annual review and personal development planning to promote achievement of individual, team and organisational objectives.
45. Complete a comprehensive competency package through observation, reflection and supervised practice within the first 6 months of being in post.
