An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, conscientious and dedicated maintenance electrician/electrical technician to join the engineering team, responsible for the maintenance and repair of electrical plant and equipment across healthcare buildings maintained by CHoICE Facilities Services. The role will require the post holder to undertake the role of Competent Person (CP) as defined within Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) 00 for multiple engineer services and support CHoICE to meet its statutory, mandatory, and best practice commitments to its existing partners.
As part of the role, the post holder will be required to be flexible and have a wide range of knowledge on electrical systems to ensure maintenance, repair and installation activities can be completed efficiently and effectively. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to operate and maintain a large scale electrical system which includes: Low Voltage distribution systems, LV switchboards, general and emergency lighting systems, theatre operating lights, nurse call systems, door access systems, fire alarms as well as critical UPS/IPS systems.
The role will also require participation in the current rolling 365 day shift pattern/system and involvement in the current on-call rota, including overtime when the service needs dictate, for which appropriate payments will be made. Further details will be provided at interview.
Main duties of the job
All applicants must have a positive, friendly and co-operative manner while being prepared to be flexible to meet the service needs of the Trust. The role will require the applicant to use their own initiative when undertaking a range of problem solving scenarios to allow for a satisfactory outcome while adapting to the changing demands of the role. Furthermore, the post holder will be required to provide technical advice, guidance and where necessary supervision to other CFS staff, contractors and Trust colleagues alike.
Successful applicants will need to have a basic knowledge of plumbing/mechanical systems with a detailed knowledge of electrical systems typically found within an NHS Trust. Completion of a City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in electrical engineering or equivalent is essential as well as the completion of a formally recognised, relevant and accredited apprenticeship.

The base salary is £31,976 - £38,926. However, as the role will require participation within an on-call rota, shift rota and completion of overtime (call outs/planned/Emergency), additional monetary rewards will be generated as part of the role.
The expected earning has been established from actual earnings earned within 2022/23 and are based upon similar roles within the organisation. Expected earnings are an obtained average; it will be typical to earn more/less than this amount.

Job responsibilities
To undertake actual maintenance and installation work/activities where appropriate across the whole range of engineering services managed/maintained by CFS. The role will require the undertaking of surveys, inspections, fault finding, servicing and rectification of engineering system faults while also providing technical advice, guidance and where appropriate supervision to other CFS staff, contractors and Trust colleagues alike.
The post holder will also be required to participate in the current CFS shift pattern/system, current on-call rota and undertake overtime when the service needs dictate for which appropriate payments will be made.

Physical skills
* Is able to travel and work at all Trust sites,
* Is able to undertake moderate physical activities for long periods throughout a typical working day,
* Is able to complete tasks which require short intensive bursts of effort before returning to moderate physical,
* Undertake regular moving and handling activities,
* Requirement for highly developed physical dexterity, for hand and eye coordination and manipulation of fine tools.
Experience
* Knowledge and experience of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing systems typically found within a large NHS Acute Trust.
* Detailed knowledge and experience of electrical system requirements and regulations typically found within large NHS Acute Trust acquired through qualifications and relevant experience.
* Complex fault diagnosis required, interpreting technical issues and formulating technical solutions to improve performance and maintain the service.
* Have suitable and sufficient experience as a competent person to a level able to accept a permit to work from an authorised person.
* Experience of working within an NHS Hospital Environment.
* Experience of operating Building Management Systems (BMS).
Qualifications
* Basic numeracy & literacy skills to level 1 or equivalent.
* Basic IT Skills.
* BTEC/ONC, City & Guilds or NVQ level 3 or equivalent in suitable engineering related discipline.
* Completion of recognised and accredited apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline.
* Completion of specialist engineering related training via formalised training or suitable experience.
* C & G 2391 Inspection & Testing of Electrical systems.
* City & Guilds 2377 Portable Appliance Testing.
* LV Competent Person Certificate.

* Detailed knowledge of the current UK Electrical Wiring Regulations (18th Edition).
