Role Overview: The Support Engineer - Workplace Technology Services is a highly visible infrastructure role that requires a commitment to providing a high-quality service to meet customer project demand. This role requires working a 12-hour, 4 on 4 off shift pattern (Days and nights 7-7). Your place of work will rotate between two main client sites, one based in Slough, Berkshire, and one based in Farringdon, London.
Responsibilities:
* Build, Rack, and Stack Network and Server hardware in Data Centre Halls and co-locations and provide connectivity.
* Perform Network Hardware break-fix activities (e.g., replacing power supplies, modules, fans).
* Monitor the client’s ticket system and ensure tickets are assigned and completed within SLA.
* Carry out all types of patching/jumpering, including voice & data, copper & fibre.
* Conduct testing and fault finding on Copper and Fibre Cabling Infrastructure using modern testers.
* Carry out all types of Copper Voice and Data terminations as required by the ONNEC portfolio of cabling systems.
* Audit and document existing cabling installations and desktop configurations.
* Compile patching schedules as required and utilize Cable Management Software for patching planning.
* Provide connectivity support to desktop users.
* Maintain accurate records of all stock delivered and used, advising the line manager of any requirements.
* Carry out surveys and update drawings and schedules.
Qualifications:
* Experience working in a Data Centre and office environment.
* Experience in an Installation, Moves Adds and Changes environment (IT Hardware deployment).
* Experience in structured cabling installation, fault finding, and testing with fluke test equipment.
* Good knowledge of structured cabling standards and cable types (FTP, UTP & Optical Fibre).
* Self-starter, organized, detail-oriented, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Strong prioritization skills and multitasking ability.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Knowledge of Asset Management Systems and Ticketing Systems.
* An understanding of complex change management and service delivery processes.
* Ability to lead/supervise shift activities.
