Job overview
Training Programme Directors have specific responsibilities as agreed in their job plans but retain corporate responsibility with the LTPD for the organisation and supervision of specialty training programmes for general practice within NHSE in line with the national curriculum. Key elements of this are:
* This appointment is to the Postgraduate School of Primary Care. The post will be based at Northumbria GP Training Programme.
Main duties of the job
* Organising and delivering the taught course to doctors in GP training.
* Advising and supporting hospital and GP trainers.
* Resourcing the assessment system (ARCP).
* Support to doctors in difficulty, including early warning, needs assessment and support to trainers of such doctors.
* Training the workforce (GP Educationalists, admin, GP and hospital trainers, educational and clinical supervisors).
* Supporting the Lead Training Programme Director as required to fulfil the School’s agreed functions.

* Understanding of developments involving the relevant Colleges/Faculties, professional bodies, National Institute for Health Research and academic training, NHS organisations and regulatory bodies.
* Previous or current appointment as a leader in healthcare education.
* Previous experience in the recruitment and selection of doctors / learners to educational programmes.
* Awareness of funding streams for healthcare education.
* Understanding of current health, social care and education policy.
* An understanding of healthcare/multi-professional workforce matters.
Qualifications and Training
* Registered Medical or Dental Practitioner with a current licence to practise or hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (or equivalent) in Public Health (for roles in School of Public Health).
* Membership/Fellowship of a College, Faculty or professional association relevant to the advertised role’s Specialty.
* Applicants should either work in NHS clinical practice (or similar setting) or should have previously undertaken clinical practice within the last 2 years prior to the intended start date of the role.
* Applicants, regardless of professional background, must have a track record of professionalism in line with the principles set out in Good Medical Practice and compatible with appointment in a senior clinical educator role.
* Attendance at courses aimed to support educational development.
* Active involvement in, and up to date with, NHS appraisal processes.
* Applicants who are GPs are normally required to be on the National Performer’s List (unless they are solely undertaking an educational management role).
* Higher educational qualification such as a postgraduate certificate, diploma or Master’s in education.
