The post will entail the delivery of neurology services in the region. The successful applicant will work within a team of Consultant Neurologists. As well as provision of General Neurology services in both inpatient and outpatient settings, the candidate will be expected to provide sub-specialty expertise to complement the delivery of a high quality, comprehensive Neurology service by the department. Sub-specialty expertise in movement disorders would be a significant asset in this context, and experience with deep brain stimulation (DBS) would be an added advantage.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be expected to do a mix of general neurology clinic and subspecialty clinics. Booking criteria for general neurology clinics are per the ABN guidance with 30 minutes allocated for a new patient and 15 minutes for each follow up patient. It is expected 5 patients are booked into each general neurology clinic and the rest of the clinic can be follow up slots. Each Clinic session is usually 4 hours. The number of clinics expected to be performed by the successful candidate is included in the job plan attached.
The post-holder will be responsible for the care of patients in his or her charge. The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to the delivery of teaching and training to students at Nottingham University Medical School, as well as to contribute to the teaching, training and supervision of Specialist Trainees in Neurology, who are in the East Midlands Deanery training programme.
As the regional Neurosciences centre, in addition to delivering tertiary specialist services in Neurology, the Neurology department at NUH must also contribute to the provision of a comprehensive Neurology service in the wider region of the East Midlands. Accordingly, the successful candidate should expect to contribute to the provision of the neurology services at other hospitals in the region. This would be for the maximum one day a week (or the equivalent), and in line with the expectations of existing members of the department.
About us
Clinical neurology forms part of the Nottingham Regional Neuroscience Unit and serves the population of Nottingham. It also provides an outreach neurological service to Kings Mill Hospital in Mansfield. In addition, consultants from NUH also perform clinics at Leicester and Loughborough to support sub specialty services in these areas.
The delivery of Inpatient Care is on a "Consultant of the Week" (COTW) system.
Since December 2020, the Neurology department has run a Hyper-Acute Neurology Unit (HANU). The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the provision of HANU services, according to a rota, and in line with needs of the service.

Person SpecificationProfessional Registration
* Full GMC Registration
* Eligible to be included on the specialist register (or CCT expected within 6 months)
* CESR
* Further higher training or qualification MD or PhD
Qualifications
* MRCP (UK) or equivalent CCT/CESR or European Right to Work
* Higher Professional Degree SCE
Experience
* Have trained in part or whole at a recognised neurology centre. In total four years training in neurology at SpR/ST level or equivalent
* Development of subspecialty interest to compliment the dept
Clinical Skills
* Evidenced clinical skills as described in the job description
* Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, their families and other health professionals
* Specific Training in Communication Skills
* Specific training in patient safety and/or human factors
Management Skills
* Ability to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for service development/delivery
* Able to work in a team
* Higher Management Degree or Qualification or Training
