Base pay range
We are working with an established marine company that manages a large fleet of different vessel types. They are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Vessel Operator to join their team in Glasgow. The Vessel Operator will be responsible for the efficient and safe operation of our fleet of tankers and dry cargo vessels. The role involves managing all aspects of vessel operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and optimizing vessel performance.
Responsibilities:
1. Vessel Scheduling and Planning: Develop and manage vessel schedules to meet cargo commitments.
2. Coordinate with charterers, agents, and port authorities to ensure smooth operations.
3. Optimize vessel utilization and minimize delays.
4. Voyage Management: Monitor vessel progress and ensure adherence to schedules.
5. Manage all operational aspects of voyages, including bunkering, port operations, and cargo operations.
6. Ensure compliance with all relevant international and local regulations.
7. Charter Party Administration: Administer charter party agreements, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions.
8. Calculate and process demurrage and dispatch.
9. Handle all documentation related to chartering and vessel operations.
10. Vessel Performance Monitoring: Monitor vessel performance and identify areas for improvement.
11. Analyze voyage data to optimize efficiency and reduce costs.
12. Implement measures to improve fuel efficiency and minimize environmental impact.
13. Communication and Coordination: Serve as the primary point of contact for vessels, charterers, agents, and other stakeholders.
14. Maintain clear and effective communication with all parties involved in vessel operations.
15. Provide regular updates to management on vessel activities and performance.
16. Compliance and Safety: Ensure that all vessel operations are conducted in compliance with international maritime regulations, safety management systems (SMS), and company policies.
17. Coordinate with vessel masters and crew to ensure the safe operation of vessels.
18. Manage and respond to any incidents or emergencies.
19. Financial Management: Control and monitor voyage costs, ensuring cost-effectiveness.
20. Approve and process invoices related to vessel operations.
21. Prepare voyage estimates and budgets.
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies, Nautical Science, or a related field preferred.
2. Ideal level of experience would be 2 years of experience in a vessel operations role, preferably with experience in both tanker or dry cargo operations but they would consider a candidate that would be beginning their journey into a shore-based role.
3. Strong knowledge of charter party agreements, international maritime regulations (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL), and port operations.
4. Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
6. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
8. Experience with vessel management software is a plus.
