Religious Affairs Manager
Yarl’s Wood IRC – Clapham
Full time – 40 hours per week, flexible hours, including weekends.
Salary - £34,203.00 plus Serco benefits
As head of a vibrant Chaplaincy team, contribute, in such a way, as to provide a person-centred care approach, promoting a sense of hope and direction to residents, to support their stay at Yarl’s Wood in preparation for returning to their country of origin.
Main Accountabilities:
* Manage the Chaplaincy team.
* To provide monthly summary reports to the Governance Department.
* To provide pastoral care and seek to ensure spiritual welfare of residents and staff.
* To provide expert faith advice within the establishment and be responsible for supporting the establishment in ensuring faith groups observe their religious holy days and festivals.
* To acquire and distribute appropriate religious literature, supplies, and materials.
* To seek and establish relationships with various support agencies and community volunteer groups.
* To facilitate faith specific services.
* To attend and provide meaningful input into chaplaincy specific meetings and forums.
* To be responsible for ensuring and delivering awareness programmes for residents including bereavement programmes.
* To work closely with Security and Safer Detention to ensure issues such as death in custody procedures, Suicide and Self-Harm and Violence Reduction are delivered in line with IRC standards.
* To ensure that all applications and complaints are responded to appropriately and within an acceptable timeframe.
* To be responsible for ensuring, contributing to and supporting residents in dealing with bereavement by liaising with families/residents and other third parties e.g. hospitals, Coroners offices.
* To plan and organise hospital visits, weddings, funerals, memorial services, in conjunction with the security department.
* To be responsible for ensuring and contributing to the delivery of daily statutory duties which include speaking to residents, visiting residents in healthcare and those segregated and being available to meet with residents prior to them being released.
* To contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings including but not limited to Safer Detention, Equality and Security.
* To plan and execute quarterly Religious Affairs meetings.
* To be the PC lead for Marriage and Civil Partnership.
* Put together a yearly events calendar and send to the Head of Safer Detention Function for each year.
* Organise and lead on all Christian Services on Sundays according to the timetable which is place.
* Organise a rota that a member of the Religious Affairs team attends CSU (Care and Separation Unit) daily and at weekends to offer support to residents residing there.
* To ensure that chaplaincy facilities and equipment are maintained to the required standard.
* To support with appropriate training for chaplaincy volunteers.
* To take responsibility for your own spiritual health and development, allowing time for private prayer, study, and retreat.
* To help in the effective administration of chaplaincy, including resident lists for events, records updated.
* To provide mentoring and personal support for staff and volunteers, including post incident.
What you will need to do the role:
* Appropriate experience in the delivery of religious services, ideally in a custodial environment that reflects the needs and requirements of the predominant faiths of the resident populations.
* Innovative and forward thinking.
* Have a proven high level of professionalism and competence in religious leadership to bring to the role.
* Will have proven experience and skills in pastoral leadership including crisis events.
* Must have a working knowledge of other faiths represented within a prison/detention centre to enable them to work in a multi faith environment.
