Description
We are dedicated to helping people who are facing homelessness. The demand for our Housing Options Service is increasing and we think it will continue to do so.
Often through no fault of their own, more and more people are finding themselves at risk of homelessness. The housing market and lack of affordable options make it challenging to help people find the homes they need.
We are determined to change how we respond to homelessness in Torbay. We know we need to develop our service due to increased demand and are committed to developing creative and innovative ways to prevent and relieve homelessness. We want to shift from a reactive offer of help when people are in crisis to be proactive in our prevention activity. We want our approach to empower and enable our clients and the people working with them to find resolutions to the situations they face.
We are investing in additional resources to make sure we deliver our aims and we have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Resettlement Officer.
We are seeking an individual who has either a proven track record of working within a challenging frontline housing service, or has transferable skills, particularly in customer service settings. You will be based in our Housing Options Team and will be an initial point of contact for those at risk of imminent homelessness. The aim of the role is to prevent and relieve homelessness by advising clients of their tenancy rights, helping negotiations with landlords and agents, as well as brokering alternative arrangements. We need someone who is:
1. An excellent communicator who will give clear and concise advice to customers and landlords.
2. A good listener who will be empathetic when helping customers facing challenging personal circumstances.
3. A team player who can display our core values and behaviours.
4. Great at case management skills, has an eye for detail and can prioritise their work in a demanding environment.
5. A natural problem solver who can think creatively to offer resolutions.

This position is for a fixed term until 31st March 2026.
This post meets the requirements for an Enhanced Criminal Record Check. This will show spent and unspent convictions and adult cautions which have not been filtered in line with legislation, plus any information held by local Police that is considered relevant to the role.

Skills
Essential:
1. To be able to use effectively a range of modes of communication including verbal, email, telephone, formal and informal reports and in presentations taking into account issues of confidentiality.
2. To be able to communicate with clarity, tact and purpose in all relevant situations.
3. Ability to form appropriate professional relationships and boundaries with clients.
As this post meets the requirements of the Immigration Act 2016 (part 7), the ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
Knowledge
Essential:
1. Working knowledge of risk assessments, Safeguarding.
2. Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of Statutory and voluntary agencies and experience of liaising with them.
3. Knowledge of how to access accommodation and rent a property.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
1. Professional qualification in housing or related area of work.
