Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work in a leading tertiary level unit, providing care to over 5,300 women annually. With a variety of subspecialties in both obstetrics and gynaecology, this role offers a unique opportunity to gain comprehensive experience and enhance clinical skills in both fields.
Job responsibilities
What you'll do:
1. Provide high-quality, patient-centred care to women, including conducting assessments, assisting with diagnostic procedures, and managing both obstetric and gynaecological cases under the supervision of senior medical staff.
2. Assist in a range of gynaecological and obstetric surgeries, including emergency and elective procedures, while gaining hands-on experience in surgical techniques and patient management during the perioperative period.
3. Participate in on-call shifts, providing immediate care in emergency obstetric and gynaecological situations, such as labour and delivery, obstetric complications, and gynaecological emergencies.
4. Work closely with consultants, midwives, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to deliver integrated care, attend ward rounds, and contribute to case discussions, promoting teamwork and communication across the department.

A strong foundation in clinical skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate sound judgment, and provide compassionate care to patients in both obstetric and gynaecological settings. The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, showing effective communication with colleagues, patients, and their families to ensure high-quality care. A keen interest in developing further expertise in obstetrics and gynaecology, demonstrating a willingness to learn from senior staff, engage in continuous professional development, and contribute to departmental improvement initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* GMC registration with a licence to practise
* Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
Aptitudes and skills
* Evidence and ability to work effectively in multi-professional teams
* Understanding of equality and diversity and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
* Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English).
* Demonstrate good organisational skills including ability to prioritise effectively and meet deadlines
* Demonstrate the ability to be calm, compassionate, and able to respond efficiently to various circumstances, which may change rapidly
* Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
