Senior Electronics Engineer

Copello are working with a defence client who are looking for an Electronics Engineer to join their Avionics Business Unit who are responsible for designing, developing and supporting a portfolio of products. We are looking for an electronics engineer to bring their experience of electronics circuit design and development to projects within this portfolio. The successful candidate will have a systems thinking mind-set, coupled with extensive knowledge of complex product development.
Key Responsibilities
1. Take ownership for the design and development of electronic sub-systems for the aerospace and defence market.
2. Research, design, develop and prototype electronic solutions in support of product development.
3. Characterise, test and down-select components for performance and cost.
4. Schematic capture of mixed signal circuit design (Analogue, RF and Digital) using Altium or similar.
5. Test, characterisation and verification of prototype designs.
6. Circuit simulation using LT Spice, Agilent ADS.
7. Develop, write and deploy software to aid evaluation of electronic devices or automate test equipment using C# or similar.
8. Provide inputs to the team to ensure designs meet requirements for manufacture utilising DFx and/or lean concepts.
9. Use various laboratory equipment such as VNAs, RF Spectrum Analyser and Oscilloscopes to conduct measurements.
10. Prepare documentation such as Technical Reports, Production Test Schedules.
Competencies
1. Experience in design of RF, High Speed digital or Power Supply electronics modules.
2. Good knowledge of current RF technologies including low noise receiver design, RF sampling ADCs and DACs, PLL/Synthesizers, digital attenuators, receiver protectors, power amplifier and lumped-element circuit design.
3. Knowledge of RF Antenna Systems and awareness of Phase Array Antennas.
4. Knowledge of GPS and its vulnerabilities would be advantageous but not essential.
5. Knowledge of common interface buses such as SPI, I2C and PMBus would be advantageous.
6. Experience of deriving and capturing system level requirements from high level customer requirements.
7. Experience in Project life-cycle delivery from bids to operation.
8. Experience of design or manufacturing in the aviation industry.
Qualifications and Required Experience
1. C experience in an embedded environment.
2. Experience of embedded processors and real-time operating systems.
3. Experience of interfacing with hardware devices and peripherals.
4. Solid understanding of software development life-cycles and processes.
5. Experience of requirement analysis, software design and software architecture.
6. Experience with source control tools such as SubVersion and Git.
7. Behavioural: self-starting, adaptable, problem solving.
8. C++ experience in an embedded environment.
9. Object Oriented Design and Programming experience.
10. Familiarity with desktop application, GUI/event-based design.
