At the Julian Hospital, we have five older persons inpatient wards, both organic and functional. We are looking to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated Senior Occupational Therapist to join our MDT and support patients in their recovery from acute distress. At the Julian Hospital, we value the knowledge and expertise of OT colleagues in the assessment and treatment of patients with acute illness and recognize the pivotal role they play in supporting safe discharges from our wards.
All the Occupational Therapists are assigned to one ward as their primary place of work, but here at the Julian, we work as part of the wider Allied Health Professionals (AHP) team, giving all the Therapists the unique opportunity to work across all inpatient areas. The AHP roles on the Julian site sit under both the ward management and the AHP clinical lead, which benefits being fully incorporated into the ward teams while also working closely together with the AHP team. Management supervision will be under the ward management, but annual appraisals will be completed alongside AHPs.
To oversee and deliver high-quality evidence-based practice and embed the Occupational Therapy process within the clinical area, the responsibilities include:
1. Undertake occupation-focused assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of interventions for service users.
2. Support in the assessment and discharge planning of patients, including equipment provision within the community setting.
3. Contribute to and participate in multi-disciplinary team assessment and formulation, providing specialist occupation-based advice and formulation.
4. Be a practice educator for students.
5. Participate/lead on developments within the service by using outcome measures and engaging in Quality Improvement projects (both locally and Trust-wide).
6. Provide supervision and leadership to our band 5 Occupational Therapists and junior therapy staff, identifying any learning and development needs in respect of their clinical skills base.
7. Deputise for AHP clinical lead when appropriate.
