Job Title: Systems Accountant Starting Salary: £41,511 progressing to £45,718 pa Hours: 37 Location: Stevenage Contract Type: Permanent Directorate: Resources About the team Our in-house Financial Systems team works closely with stakeholders across the organisation to implement new systems that support HCCs business activities and integrate with the Finance ERP (currently SAP ECC6). We also support development work within existing systems, ensuring that any change does not impact on business-as-usual activities and key services. The Systems team will be involved in a wide range of projects, providing support and guidance to ensure the best use of Finance Systems, promoting best practice and driving forward initiatives to achieve efficiencies and process improvements. Following an Organisational Review in January 2025, the scope and responsibility of the team has increased, and this role is a newly created role within an existing and well-established team. About the role This is a fast-paced environment, and tasks and priorities can change. Therefore, you'll need to be able to work under pressure and be extremely well organised, taking a pro-active approach to your workload. Typical projects for Finance Systems includes: Financial Reporting and Analysis: Ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, enabling stakeholders to make informed decisions. Budgeting and Forecasting: Supporting the council's budget monitoring systems to ensure BHs have the best tools available to forecast yearly expenditure. Compliance and Risk Management: Implementing systems that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and manage financial risks - examples include compliance with Audit requirements, as well as legislation such as PCI-DSS Compliance. Transaction Processing: Streamlining processes for transactions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. System Maintenance and Upgrades: Regularly supporting the upgrade and maintenance of financial systems to ensure they remain efficient and secure. Leading on UAT. User Training and Support: Providing training and ongoing support to users to ensure they can effectively utilise financial systems, including ownerships of internal Intranet pages along with guidance and training material. About you Essential CCAB qualified or equivalent or have significant proven experience. Ability to make effective use of multiple data sources and to use available tools to carry out detailed financial analysis Ability to interpret, apply and explain financial policies, procedures and guidance. Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders, creating trust and confidence and being able to persuade and negotiate as to the actions required. Experience in fully analysing and interpreting business needs in relation to proposed system changes impacting financial data. Experience working within and developing financial systems.
