An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Band 5 Cancer Support Worker Team Leaders to join our Team at University Hospital Sussex NHS Foundations Trust. One of these roles will be based at either Worthing or St Richard's hospital, Chichester and one at either Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton or Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath with some travel required across sites. Our service provides outstanding care for patients with cancer. We are a friendly cohesive team and require a focused, committed, enthusiastic individual.

Main duties of the job
An opportunity has arisen for two enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our friendly team. The Cancer Information & Support Service provides non-clinical advice, guidance, and signposting to all patients from point of diagnosis. This includes emotional support, financial and practical guidance and referrals as well as resources to support patients with physical and nutritional advice.
The successful applicant will work closely with the Macmillan Information and Support Manager and have had experience in leading a team through change.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Role Summary
1. To line manage a team of Support Workers being responsible for the continuing professional development and overall performance of the staff within the Cancer Services Team, in order for them to fulfil their professional potential.
2. To manage the planning and prioritisation of the team and their workloads in order to achieve a cost-effective, productive, high-quality service.
3. To ensure consistency of practice across the disease site specific cancer support workers, ensuring work undertaken is in line with the division’s strategic agenda and departmental policies and SOPs, taking account of the individual needs of each team as required.
4. To be responsible for the recruitment, training, management, and retention of the cancer support workers.
5. Work closely and be the point of contact with the Macmillan Information & Support Services Manager, working collaboratively to develop and improve the services with particular attention to the implementation of aspects of the personalised care agenda, namely Holistic Needs Assessments and Care Planning and the design and implementation of appropriate health and wellbeing interventions using multiple methods of delivery.
6. Support the Macmillan Information & Support Service Manager on a project to review the current single point of access process at UHSx with a view to implementing a robust patient contact service that is sustainable.
7. Support Cancer Support Workers to provide high-level information & support to patients with complex supportive care needs including dealing with challenging situations and difficult conversations.
Person specification
Education
* GCSE Maths and English C or above, or equivalent
* Degree or equivalent (Lvl 5+) in Health and Social Care or short courses with practical experience
* Coaching or Teaching qualification
* Willingness for further training or professional development
Experience
* Proven team leading / managerial experience
* Shows experience leading a team through change
* Previous experience in a related health and social care setting
* Experienced with managing through disciplinary processes
