Locum Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics with sub-specialty expertise in Major Trauma.
To support the Trust's Major Trauma Centre in the Yorkshire and Humber region, we are looking to appoint a Locum Orthopaedic Major Trauma Consultant. This is a 10 PA locum appointment and the post will be available from November 2024 for a period of 12 months.
The post will maintain our established team of Consultants within the Trauma & Orthopaedic department at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, one of the leading healthcare institutions in the world, excelling in patient care, teaching, and research.

Main duties of the job
This role offers an outstanding opportunity to play a key role in developing and delivering trauma services in the region and improving outcomes for our patients. The successful applicants will work at the centre of a regional network that covers nearly 4 million people (adults & children) in our Major Trauma Centre, including dedicated major trauma ward, theatres, and critical care facilities.
The successful applicant must possess the FRCS (In Trauma and Orthopaedics) or equivalent, have completed higher specialist training (or equivalent) in T&O, and be on the specialist register or be within six months of being admitted to the register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK.
The successful candidate must demonstrate a high level of clinical experience in Trauma & Orthopaedics to complement the high profile service in Leeds. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching, and service development are essential.

LEEDS MAJOR TRAUMA CENTRE (MTC) SERVICE
Leeds General Infirmary opened as a level 1 trauma centre on 2nd April 2013, providing care to a population of almost 3 million. The service was recently recognized as the second busiest in England and produced the second-best quality outcomes within the country (as per TARN data).
Job responsibilities
Through the West Yorkshire Major Trauma Network, the MTC serves patients across the region from incident to rehabilitation. Each morning the team has a Multi-disciplinary team meeting to discuss all major trauma patients within the hospital. Our Major Trauma Nurse specialists coordinate the care of our patients as soon as they arrive in the emergency department.
The Network was established in 2013 to ensure all patients requiring major trauma services have access to the right level of care at the right time.
Person Specification
Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills Essential:
* Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* Is up to date and fit to practise safely.
Clinical, Academic, and Personal Skills Essential:
* Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
* Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.
* Understanding of current issues in the NHS.
Qualifications Essential:
* MB BS (or equivalent).
* FRCS or equivalent qualification.
* ATLS.
Experience Essential:
* Must demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in the management of acute major trauma surgical conditions.
* Specifically, must demonstrate higher speciality training in orthopaedics.
