About the Role and our Ideal Candidate:
Kingston Adult Education is looking to appoint an experienced maths teacher to teach GCSE maths, Functional Skills maths, or bespoke maths courses to groups of adult (19+) learners. The courses you deliver will be on a part-time, sessional basis during term times. Each course is typically between 2 - 5 hours of contact time per week. There may be flexibility when arranging the days and times of the courses you teach. Most of our courses are delivered as a blend of both online and in-class teaching at one of our classrooms in the Kingston upon Thames area.
You will be given a full induction to working at KAE. As well as this, there are regular training sessions and CPD opportunities available throughout the year to help our teachers continually develop their teaching skills.
Core requirements:
1. Hold a relevant teaching qualification at Level 3 or above
2. Have experience in teaching Maths to adult learners including experience teaching GCSE Maths and/or Functional Skills Maths at E3, L1, or L2
3. Be familiar with the GCSE Maths and/or Functional Skills Maths curriculum (we are currently using Edexcel for GCSE and City and Guilds for Functional Skills qualifications) and be able to deliver a programme of learning which gives all learners the best possible chance of passing their exams
4. Be able to teach in both classroom and online settings (we use Google Classroom and Google Meet to deliver online learning)
Key activities of the role:
1. Assess learners at the start of the course and plan a programme of learning to meet their needs using scheme of work, lesson plan, and class profile documents
2. Deliver learning that may take the form of a blend of classroom-based learning and online learning
3. Agree personalised learning goals for each learner and record them in their individual learning plan. To monitor learners’ progress towards achieving their goals.
4. Differentiating the delivery to meet the needs of individual learners
5. Prepare learners for exams by teaching the qualification specification and following awarding body requirements
6. Complete the register of learner attendance at the start of each class
7. Regularly assess learners’ classwork/homework. To provide constructive feedback on how to improve (also including spelling, punctuation, and grammar).
8. Advise learners on suitable progression routes at the end of their course
9. Attend staff development activities, one-to-one meetings, team meetings and Annual Staff Conference and to adopt best practice in teaching and learning.
10. Take reasonable care of the equipment and learners in your charge, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and subsequent regulations, and to be familiar with the emergency procedures and ensure that they are followed in the event of an emergency evacuation or lockdown
11. Liaise with your manager in following up learners who are absent with no notification or leave the course prematurely
12. Report any safeguarding or Prevent concerns in line with the Safeguarding and Prevent policies
13. Act at all times in accordance with RBK and KAE policies and procedures
14. Assist in the promotion of courses at Kingston Adult Education
15. Meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Achievement, Attendance and Progression as set by the service/your Manager
