Staff Nurse – Chartwell Chemotherapy Day Unit

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Staff Nurse who has interest in developing their Systematic Anticancer Therapy skills based at Chartwell Chemotherapy Day Unit. You should have experience in haematology, oncology or an acute setting. King College NHS foundation has two Chemotherapy Day Unit (CDU) sites working closely together, Denmark Hill and PRUH Chartwell CDU.This a developmental role for the post holder to develop Systematic Anticancer Therapy (SACT) training and will help play a key role in the delivering of SACT and be part of the team that is improving patients experience for both malignant and non-malignant conditions. King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is Centre of excellence for Haematological malignancy and Liver Centre, we have ongoing clinical trials at both local, national and international.
We work collaboratively across the South East as part of South East London Cancer Alliance (SELCA). We are also part of King's Health Partners and have close links with Guy's Cancer Academy and King's College London.
Main duties of the job
* Experience and interest in caring for patients with Haematology and Oncology conditions.
* Competent in IV administration (training will also be provided).
* Willingness to expand their clinical practice including SACT accredited course and UKONS SACT passport.
* Competent in managing Central Venous Access Device (CVAD) (training will be provided IV Therapy Passport).
* Should be able to plan, document, deliver and evaluate evidence-based nursing care for cancer patients undergoing treatment in a responsible and efficient way.
* Should be able to develop a greater awareness and understanding of the needs of patients with cancer and the different treatment modalities administered within the unit.

Job responsibilities
Main Responsibilities
* Be an advocate for patients undergoing cancer treatment.
* To provide expert, holistic care of a high standard to both the patients receiving chemotherapy and their relatives within the King's College Hospital.
* Working alongside B6 registered nurses (RN), manage case-load and be responsible for safe chemotherapy delivery in accordance with national and the trust guidance on the delivery of Systematic.
* Anticancer Therapy (SACT), & cytotoxic therapy for non-cancer indications across the Trust.
* To act as a positive role model to junior staff members, particular emphasis is put at King's on the need to ensure that all staff recognize their responsibility to deliver services in a high quality, courteous, patient focused manner and to maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (RN1) with active NMC registration at time of starting appointment.
* Willingness to work towards a recognised SACT course and complete UKONS SACT Passport
* First degree or a willingness to work towards this.
* Mentorship qualification or willingness to work towards this.
Knowledge and Experience
* Experience in Cancer care/Haematology & Oncology.
Skills and Competencies
* Communication skills - able to relate and communicate with patients and staff at all levels and from different professions. Adapts communication style as necessary and is able to work with and through others.
* Team building and working skills - able to lead a team to achieve results
