NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
We are advertising for a Senior Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join the Acute Psychology Service to initially work within the Chronic pain service. This post will be based in Admin Building, Gartnavel Royal Hospital but please note that this is a flexible post and as such you will be expected to work across Acute Psychology Services as required. This will at times include a change in specialty and/or base. The post holder will support the Lead Clinical Psychologist in ensuring that national waiting time targets are adhered to and that the psychology resource is utilized in the most effective and efficient manner, consistent with organisational priorities. This presents an excellent opportunity to develop skills in leadership, and adaptability while getting insight into multiple services across the health board and enhancing understanding of broader health care delivery.
The post holder will be managed within the Acute Psychology Service, which comprises a large group of psychologists working across a range of clinical health and neuropsychology services. This provides the post holder with a supportive Psychology collegiate.
The post holder will provide a specialised clinical/counselling psychology service to clients of Acute Psychology services; providing highly specialist psychological assessment and therapy at the same time as offering advice and consultation on clients’ psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues; working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service’s policies and procedures. The post holder will be required to flexibly cover areas of need in terms of clinical specialisms and geographical areas across Acute services as required.
You will utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service and provide clinical and professional supervision to other psychologists or trainees undertaking Doctoral training.
The post-holder will undertake service development which may have an impact beyond own area of practice.
You should demonstrate advanced theoretical and practical knowledge as a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist which has been obtained through post-graduate doctoral level training in Clinical/Counselling Psychology (or equivalent) as accredited by BPS or HCPC including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan development psychology. In addition to this, you should be HCPC registered as a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist.
The hours for this post are worked between Monday and Friday, 9am-5pm. This post requires PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland Check.
