We are looking to recruit a Band 6 Nurse practitioner within the Ophthalmology Outpatient Clinics who will carry professional, clinical, educational and managerial responsibilities for the Nursing service on a 37.5-hour weekly basis on the Eye Clinic and will have responsibility for both clinical and staff Governance issues.

Successful staff will be an Ophthalmic trained with extensive experience within the speciality with slit lamp skills. He/she will be leading the oculoplastic services, reviewing patients in pre and post op clinic.

Practice always within the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Practice.
To attend mandatory training as required.
To present an appearance, which gives a positive image of the Trust, and a manner which, is appropriate and inspires confidence.
To ensure fulfilment of the requirements for professional updating and maintain a personal record for future registration purposes.
To develop patient care pathways incorporating new technology. Work within and monitor standards of care within the defined policies, procedures, standards and protocols of the ward and directorate to ensure adherence to and delivery of a high-quality service.
To ensure privacy and dignity of patients is paramount and not compromised.
Ensure effective communication processes are in place to meet the needs of patients, relatives and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Propose and develop evidence-based policies/procedures and working practices within the clinical area and ensure they are implemented.
Responsible for setting an agreed standard of patient care and ensuring its delivery, monitored by audit.
Sets a high standard of record keeping regarding patient care which is comprehensive, concise, valid and audited on a regular basis.
Responsible for implementing strategies which enable quality targets to be met utilising recognised audit tools.
Provide clinical and professional advice to all members of the nursing team. Maintain Professional Registration.

Qualifications
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Ophthalmic Nursing Degree
* Current ALS/ILS certification
Knowledge
* Substantial experience in specialist field
* Significant experience at Band 5 or above
* Experience of teaching and assessing in the clinical area.
* Participation in service development and implementation of change
Skills
* Venepuncture and cannulation trained and skilled
* Able to influence and overcome resistance through application of advanced communication skills
* Able to manage work autonomously.
* Able to participate/undertake clinical audit & research
* Ability to communicate unpleasant /sensitive information to patients in a variety of settings.
* Able to analyse data and provide written reports.
* Intermediate IT skills in word processing and spread sheets
* Knowledge of professional and NHS issues, and policy relating to specialist area.
