Clinical Manufacturing & Supply (CM&S) sits within PT&D and is an integrated end-to-end global supply chain organisation which is accountable for designing, planning, sourcing, making and distributing clinical trial material as well as the internal and external GLP/GMP manufacture of a wide range of drug substance and drug products.
We are now recruiting for a Project Director in CM&S. We are seeking a visionary leader with a strong background in supply chain management within the pharmaceutical industry, exceptional project management skills, and the ability to lead across cross-functional teams.
About the role
As a Project Director within Clinical Manufacturing & Supply (CM&S), you'll be responsible for creation of business cases, supporting senior management in securing funding and then execution of projects through a cross functional team. These projects will be aligned with the CM&S Strategic objectives and will primarily focus on delivery of strategic projects.
You will lead and mobilise significant projects and programmes working with internal and external partners and bring clarity and solutions to complex situations. A core skill of being a Project Director is to identify and manage significant risks and develop mitigation plans, as well as being excellent on communication, influencing and creating hard-working project teams.
You will be able to balance business needs and costs for a range of issues inc. financial, legal, fiscal and personnel.
You will report and engage with internal and external partners, project sponsor and be their single point of accountability and take a leadership role in the strategic projects space. In the day to day work you use your project management capabilities and your knowledge of supply chain management, supply chain planning, organisational change management and clinical supply.
As Project Director you will define goals and manage delivery performance of a cross-functional team to deliver projects or programmes to time, cost, SHE and quality standards and regulatory compliance.
What you'll do:
1. Leadership of global and cross functional projects and programmes in accordance with the standard program, project and change frameworks.
2. Development of business cases inc. expected benefits and financial cost estimation. Presenting these to senior management as part of funding decisions.
3. Influence and clearly communicate the business value of the scope of your project within Clinical Supply and broadly across CMC organisations, Clinical Operations, QA and IT to ensure they receive appropriate investment and where necessary develop successful investment business cases.
4. Deal with a wide range of complex problems that require well developed conceptual thinking and judgement to find solutions, which are often innovative.
5. Active risk management to balance business needs and costs and is accountable for decisions as part of the risk management process.
6. Lead and mentor individuals to increase project and programme management capability within CM&S.
7. This role will play a key role in the delivery of CM&S strategic objectives and likely with a strong digitization focus and influencing wider R&D /Operations/IT partners to ensure appropriate delivery to Clinical Supply.
Essential Skills & Experience:
1. Extensive years of experience within Project Management ideally within the pharmaceutical industry.
2. Experience in clinical supply.
3. Proven track record of delivering transformational supply chain projects within a global environment.
4. Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing, supply chain management and planning, finance, and quality.
5. Experience in managing change.
6. Excellent communication skills with experience interacting with a diverse range of partners, across different subject areas, organizational cultures, and with external collaborators.
7. Ability to interpret complex situations and information to provide strategic clarity and identify opportunities.
8. Strong conceptual problem-solving skills.
9. Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a scientific, engineering, or business field.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
1. High level of understanding of LEAN, business processes, and ways of working across AstraZeneca.
2. Ability to think beyond the boundaries of one's job and organization, challenge the status quo, and seek opportunities for business improvement.

9. Familiarity with agile development processes in IT and Lean Leadership practices in Operations.
