We are looking for a driven individual to undertake the position of Technician 1 (across nights, days, and wheel lathe) at Reading Train Care Depot. The successful candidate will join a team responsible for the preventative and reactive maintenance of Class 387 & 16X rolling stock. We seek someone who is self-motivated with a desire to succeed.
What you'll be doing?
Your main responsibilities will include:
* Carrying out safety-critical and non-safety-critical tasks according to controlled technical instructions on Diesel and Electric rolling stock.
* Planning and coordinating tasks with others working on the same unit/vehicle(s) or location.
* Performing maintenance activities, fault finding & rectification, and defect reporting.
* Providing technical support at mainline stations as required.
* Creating and maintaining safe working conditions.
* Working away from the home location, depending on personal contract and/or roster requirements.
Who we're looking for?
You should be:
* Proactive and able to work as part of a team or independently as required.
* Capable of planning your workload to meet tight deadlines.
* Able to work weekends, bank holidays, and live within a reasonable distance of Reading Train Care Depot.
* From a recognized engineering background.
Minimum requirements:
* An NVQ Level 3 in an Engineering subject.
* Engineering experience (knowledge of Railway Diesel and Electric rolling stock is advantageous but training will be provided).
