This is an exciting time to join the Data Protection Team in the Department for Business & Trade (DBT). We lead on the management and oversight of the department’s compliance work and are in the process of evolving our processes and procedures to the next level of maturity.
DBT supports UK businesses to grow, create jobs and take advantage of the global appetite for British goods and services, as well as to assist international companies to collaborate with UK suppliers. We are based in Whitehall but also have offices both across the country and around the world.
We are seeking a Data Protection Advocacy Manager who will lead on key areas of work in the Data Protection Team. The successful candidate will lead on DBT’s Data Protection Training & Awareness Strategy and will be a prominent face across the department.
The Data Protection Team sits in the KIM Team. Key KIM functions and responsibilities include information management, governance, organisation transparency, freedom of information, data protection and records & knowledge management.
The successful applicant will play a key role in supporting the Head of Data Protection (and DPO) as they work to promote good practices and a privacy-positive culture across the department.
DBT’s Data Protection Team has recently expanded and you will play a pivotal role in supporting organisational compliance.
The Data Protection Advocacy Team you will lead sits alongside the Data Protection Compliance Team and Data Protection Risk Assurance Team under the Head of Data Protection / Deputy DPO.
You will be playing a major role in developing organisational understanding of, and compliance with, data protection. In line with our organisational strategy, you will have scope to develop innovative approaches to promote and enhance knowledge and awareness of data protection, developing a training regime which pitches relevant training content to staff on a risk-basis.
You will be a key advocate for Data Protection across the business, engaging with senior management and colleagues at all levels to identify areas for compliance improvement, personally overseeing the implementation of evidence-based solutions.
You will own and develop the Data Protection One Stop Shop resource and lead on the Data Protection Team’s Comms Strategy.
As a knowledgeable source of expertise for the wider business you will deliver tailored support for DBT’s partner organisations and staff based overseas based on their specific needs, playing a key role in KIM’s Centre of Excellence.
