Job overview
Manchester Paediatric Cochlear Implant Programme Speech & Language Therapist/ Teacher of the Deaf/ Aural Habilitationist Band 6 Full time: 37.5 Hours/week
We are looking for a dynamic rehabilitationist to join the Manchester Auditory Implant Programme at Manchester Royal Infirmary. The Implant Programme is unique in providing hearing implant services for adults and children under one management structure within one hospital Trust.
You will have an interest in working with children, young people, and adults with hearing loss. Cochlear implant experience is not essential as full training will be provided. There will be the opportunity to undertake training in Auditory Verbal Therapy and participate in ongoing research projects.
You'll work in partnership with families and local providers to ensure the maximum speech, language, and auditory potential of children, young people, and adults with cochlear implants in a variety of settings.
You should have a recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy, Teacher of the Deaf, or Certified Auditory Verbal Therapist. Additional qualifications in audiology, psychology, or sign language are desirable.
The post involves centre, home, and school-based services, so a full driving licence is essential.
There will be ample opportunities for professional development through performance management and attendance at national and international conferences.
Main duties of the job
You will provide a comprehensive specialist speech and language/aural habilitation therapy service, working autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team providing support to profoundly deaf children, adolescents, and adults who use cochlear implants.
You will travel to see patients in their local environments and provide specialist clinical expertise and support to local medical and educational professional staff and families.
You will manage your own caseload and participate in the service delivery of speech and language intervention to the patients within the Cochlear Implant Programme, adapting the therapy input and intervention as necessary based on service need. While the largest proportion of the caseload will be with paediatric patients, support will also be given to adolescent and adult patients.
