Saffron Walden Museum, opened in 1835, is the accredited museum service for Uttlesford and holds extensive collections of social history, decorative arts, archaeology, and natural sciences relating to the district and its regional context, as well as some historic collections from around the world.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact on the museum, and to cultural heritage and arts participation in the district.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about developing partnership working connections, and fostering lifelong learning and wellbeing in the community, utilising the museum’s collections. They will encourage greater community participation in the museum’s projects, programmes, and initiatives, to achieve collective benefits across the district.
You will have experience of working in a customer-facing environment such as a museum, gallery, or retail space. This role involves planning and delivering collections-based events in the district, supervising volunteers, and applying for funding for audience development projects.
This post requires some flexibility in working hours (occasional weekend and evening work as needed). Due to keyholder and call-out duties, the postholder must be able to respond to out-of-hours emergency or maintenance callouts on occasion.
A full driving licence and access to a car are essential for transporting collections between museum buildings and to other venues.
A full enhanced DBS check is required for this post.
