Hardware Configuration Technician
About the role
As a Hardware Configuration Technician, you will be responsible for assembling, configuring, testing, and dispatching hardware devices used in our deployed software solutions. Your role ensures that all hardware components meet Unilinks high standards for quality and functionality before they are shipped to clients or installed on-site. You’ll also assist with inventory management, support ticket triaging related to hardware, and contribute to continual improvement of hardware deployment processes.
Responsibilities & Duties
* Assemble and configure hardware devices (e.g., kiosks, biometric scanners, secure tablets, networking gear) in accordance with company specifications.
* Install and configure operating systems and relevant Unilink software components on hardware before dispatch.
* Run diagnostic tests and verify functionality to ensure reliability and compliance with internal QA standards.
* Prepare and package hardware securely for shipment, including documentation of serial numbers and configurations.
* Track inventory levels of hardware components and consumables, assisting with stock control.
* Maintain accurate configuration records using Unilinks asset management systems.
* Assist in the investigation and resolution of hardware-related support tickets.
* Support field engineers and deployment teams with pre- and post-installation checks.
* Follow all Health & Safety protocols during equipment handling and lab activities.
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to refine hardware configuration processes.
Qualifications & Experience
* Proven hands-on experience with hardware assembly, imaging, or configuration in a technical or IT support environment.
* Familiarity with operating systems (Windows/Linux) installation and basic BIOS/UEFI settings.
* Knowledge of networking basics (IP addressing, switches, cabling).
* Ability to follow technical instructions and standard operating procedures precisely.
* Strong attention to detail, organization, and documentation skills.
* Good communication and collaboration skills with internal teams.
* Able to lift, move, and package equipment safely (manual handling training will be provided if necessary).
* Right to work in the UK and able to pass necessary background checks for working in the justice sector.
